TimberWolf update for 4.1FE ?

used to work ok with 4.1 Update 6 (or whatever the last update was beofre FE) but with FE it's sadly unusable on my X1k.

The bros did say they were gonna release an update 'sometime' after the bounty money was claimed and it's been a while so hopefully we can get one now to make it usuable with FE.

Just some kind of update on the project would be good.

It's dead. HJF stated that keeping up with Firefox is too daunting. He mentioned that Chrome would be a more likely candidate for his attention.

not asking for latest Firefox just want it to be usable on 4.1FE.

Just saw speech at AmiWest and if the bros are holding him from releasing a 'useable' port on FE because of some idiots harassing them then where does that leave the remaining 99% of us who gladly donated to the bounty and thanked them for their hard work??? seems a few black sheep are affecting the whole flock

Chrome ? So another bounty for some more 7000 euro of donation for another unfinished port to be released as alpha (if we are lucky) in 2034 ?

No thanks really..

But I hope they will release the FF4 source code, atlest others can finally update it in a human fashion

Definitely interested in seeing beyond the "standard release" as available from Mozilla...

I'm personally just wondering how much is actively modified for TimberWolf to actually run on AmigaOS.

I dont crave new versions. Getting it more stable would satisfy most users i believe :) Like not crashing at exit and freeze on start.

Yep, but afaik they lost all motivation to continue. Maybe you can open your swedish wallet, and get them on better thoughts?

Better spend a fraction of the time on Odyssey. It just needs a new webkit and it's all we need.

Seems the problem is in the SDK; the compiler being too old to compile webkit with its C++11 feature requirements.

well doesn't seem right to just ignore the fact it doesn't work with FE at all ??

Don't use it much here, 'cause it has/had problems and locks up eventually. But Timberwolf opens and works on www.Amigans.net on my XE with 4.1FE as well as it did back on update 6.

I would very much like to see a full up to date port of Firefox, I would contribute to a port be it Timberwolf or a new port that is not held hostage by the Friedens that supported full hardware acceleration. Lets hope the Friedens do release the OS4.1 changes so that it can it can be updated.

For sure an up-to-date FifeFox port can solve us many problems like the OWB quite-old WebKit engine since no new updates from 2 years...
But I dunno one thing...the old bounty moneys was spent or not since the TimberWolf port was never completed?

The C++11 features issue is only going to get worse over time, as more and more open-source projects use it. The new C++11 features are very useful (I particularly like having standard multi-threading classes).

I have no idea how much work updating GCC and the C++ standard library is,** but it's becoming more and more important over time.

** NOTE: From memory, the adtools project does have GCC 4.9.2 working as a cross-compiler, although there may still be a few issues with it. Nevertheless, that task is at least partially done.
