BIG thanks Joerg, it's very nice to see you updating to the very latest SVN, only problem we will have now 4 different releases to test and at some point we will got crazy without a proper merge !

That's what the SVN's for :) time to merge all the stuff and release betas there... I'll reply to all later.

The best would be only ONE Mplayer with :

Kas1e's improved MUI-GUI, Composite video output from LiveForIt, SDL video output from MickJT, P96 output from Joerg and all the AltiVec improvments from LiveForIt too.

Thus we could have only ONE Mplayer with the best from every people working on it

Trust me, it is best when you don't push your luck with software developers. They REALLY don't like it when you state the blatantly obvious like that. Let them do their thing.

I'm commit my changes, but it takes time to check what I did and added comment, about what I have done.

There will always be different versions as long as there are different developers working on it, things has to be tested, and confirmed working, its better if stuff that is working is committed to the Repo, but keep the Beta stuff out, until its ready.

Sure it's all a bit chaotic for now, but it's normal
A unique version is maybe not so possible, i fell we will have atleast 2 separated versions (as it was before), one that we maybe consider as the continuation of the old afxgroup release and another one based on the MUI version from Fab (the one ported by Roman)

Actually i consider the recent LiveForIt release as a natural continuation of the old afxgroup's version, ok for now it didn't include all things we had in the old version, but theorically all the old Amiga features added by afx can be re-added (ARexx, a functional p96_pip etc)

His new compositing driver can be used in both release aswell

Then we have also the new work from Joerg, he already updated to the very latest SVN and he also still working on a new and faster p96_pip implementation.

Again both of them can be reused in LiveForIt version and also in the MUI release

So if all goes well most if not all the code will be shared between the two, and this can be done if all involved devs will be so kind to share their diffs with no problem, so crossing finger

I am very encouraged by the forward movement here and pleased with the new capability these advancements have brought to my X1000. Playing movies downloaded from the Internet is cool, but I am also interested in processing and editing videos on my X1000. I have professional tools on my Macs for this and use those daily in my work, but as an Amiga hobbyist I also want to play with some video stuff under AmigaOS.

The composition output mode in the liveforit mplayer beta is letting me play 1280x720 videos that are 24fps and keep sound sync. At 30fps, I am losing sync. CPU load is around 60 percent. (To contrast, with cgx_wpa mode, the CPU is saturated and the video plays horribly.)

So where I'd like to be is using a program like Kevin's VideoClipper to arrange, cut and join video clips that I produce into the desired order, then output to 1280x720 using a codec that looks decent but keeps the bitrate down to something we can play.

So... I've done some testing this week with all this stuff and with my cameras, and I've been able to make 720p videos on my X1000 that are more than good enough for YouTube. Very cool.

KTadd's VideoClipper needs to control MPLayer with AREXX, so hopefully a version will be coming that has both comp mode and AREXX.

Next thing to consider.... If I understand what's going on here this comp mode is really the first time we've been able to leverage some power of the GPU for playback. I have a Radeon HD 6850 card in my X1000. If I am right on the edge with capability now (can do 24fps but not 30fps @720p for example), might a higher end card help with that? Like a Radeon HD 6970 or 6950? Those are still pricey, but I see some used offerings that are tempting.

Don't mean to get the card too far ahead of your horses, gentlemen! Your work is being watch and tested and appreciated by folks who aren't even active in this thread, I know!

Addendum to last post: I just used ffmpeggui to re-render a camera clip with mjpeg and can achieve 30fps playback with 1280x720 and comp mode with that rather easy-on-the-hardware codec. I am trying increasingly larger bitrates to see what I can get away with. Fun stuff.... :)

This was not my intention.

We (a few of us) are testing intensely all newer version, it takes a lot of time to test them on many architectures and then reporting our benchs.

It's pretty normal that I (or we) can also express my (our) feelings even if it won't never happen. Respect that please

@LiveForIt

No problem. Even if multiple version exist, it will be up to us to select the best one for oir specific system (as I wrote -in French- here.

It's compressed with xz, you can use for example the xzdec shell tool from http://os4depot.net/index.php?functio ... library/misc/lzma_lib.lha to extract it.

For using it with UnArc additionally http://os4depot.net/index.php?functio ... tility/archive/xad_xz.lha is required.

Because If i try to launch a video (from shell or even via MPlayerGUI) it always crash on my Sam440

Try with no sound (it crashes with SDL sound).

On AmigaOne XE G4 1,26Ghz:

BENCHMARKs: VC: 21.420s VO: 4.714s A: 0.000s Sys: 0.914s = 27.048s

Faaaast

I'll try soon on my Sam440ep o/c 733Mhz
