Updating system

Hello all.
I'm having a problem updating the system software, see photo.

My system is an Amiga 5000 with a 4.1 workbench.

According your picture, you are installed AmigaOS 4.1 FE update 2 and receive that message.

At first, do you have installed AmigaOS 4.1 FE and AmigaOS 4.1 FE update 1? If yes, all is OK, follow instructions on picture. You have AmigaOne X5000, so:
-open System:utilities/notepad
-in notepad open file System:Kickstarts/kicklayout
-find here the line"MODULE Kickstart/p5020sata.device.kmod" and change it to "MODULE Kickstart/p50x0sata.device.kmod"
- reboot

If you have not installed AmigaOS 4.1 FE and update 1, install them first.
If you rebooted system after installation and cannot boot to system properly, boot from Installation DVD AmigaOS 4.1 FE, and use notepad and modify Kicklayout as mentioned above.

I will boot up the system tomorrow and tell you the details.

Here are the details of the installed Workbench:

Amiga OS Release 4.1 - Final Edition Update 1 Enhanced, Freescale P50XX (E5500 core), 2,047MB Fast RAM, Radeon HD Oland

So as you have Amiga OS Release 4.1 - Final Edition Update 1, you can continue with installation of update 2.
And after installation of update 2 change the file System:Kickstarts/kicklayout

And after installing Update 2 and changing Kicklayout (as Sailor wrote above), run AmiUpdate again to install all the later updates released (see the list at https://update.amigaos.net/). And keep running it again until it doesn't offer any more updates; some updates require others to already have been installed.

Hello nbache.
I have tried to edit the Kickstart file but it crashed and now i cannot boot back in to the workbench !

Nothing is working.
I try to select the "Esc" key to select what to boot from but that is not working also.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Somewhere there is an error in the kicklayout and serial output would help. I cannot remember if you can make it show serial output instead of the splash screen.

Easiest would be to boot from some recovery USB / CD and load up your HDD system partition's Kickstart/Kicklayout.

I cannot enter the boot selector to use the USB drive.

I wouldn't think the boot selector would be effected by changing kicklayout.

You probably have some "fancy" keyboard that uboot does not like.

Exchange it with some cheap generic keyboard and you should be able to access uboot.

You can try a different USB port for the keyboard.

Yeh I find my nicer RGB keyboard can't get into early boot yet a $6.95 USB keyboard I purchased from Fry's before they closed works fine.

I have found one of my older Apple USB keyboards also works, wired model of course.

Very hit and miss for me.

If anyone has an x5000, can you take a photo of the USB connections going to it please? I may be connecting to an unrecognised port.
The keyboard and mouse were purchased with the x5000 when I bought them, so they should be compatible.

Use any of the USB ports on your motherboard, not a USB port on the case. Any of them should work as long as your keyboard is one that works.

My experience as I noted before is the X5K is picky on keyboards that worked for getting one into early boot. Even if the keyboard is one that came with your X5K does not guarantee it was tested for early boot either.

Once that boing ball at boot starts to spin and do the animation, try ESC key and even Space Bar.

I had one keyboard that worked on ESC key while another using my Space Bar.

If that fails on all of the motherboard usb ports, your keyboard may not be one that it likes for early boot access.

Just my tips as I only found a couple keyboards that worked for me over the years owning an X5K.
