RadeonHD V.5 driver
Just popping in

See User information
There seems to be available a new version of the RadeonHD driver... (https://amigakit.amiga.store/radeonhd- ... gl911f0t5q9ntpkt3lvtk74r7¤cy=EUR&aksid=kgl911f0t5q9ntpkt3lvtk74r7) But I cannot find anywhere detailed information what it can do with different Radeon HD series'. Could someone please post this info here? Thank you!

I would be especially interested to know whether there is any advantage with Radeon HD 6000 cards in video streaming, compared to the older v. 3.7 driver.

I don’t get why figured out that we needed a box, shipment, export tax, stuck in the toll. When can just have downloaded this.

Specifically relating to video play back no enhancements
for anything except Radeon SI cards (HD 7000 series).
So nothing new for Radeon HD 6000 series and earlier.

For the Radeon SI cards we are seeing full hardware accelerated video playback for videos up to 720p.
1080p not working well from reports from X1000 users with
release version of the driver and Sam460ex beta tester from earlier versions of driver.

No reports from any X5000 users yet.

I bought the Radeon V5 for my X5000 but I haven't received it yet, I'll tell you how the videos work in 1080p

I ordered it and now waiting for delivery.

Except hw video support for Radeon SI (HD 77xx-79xx) cards there should be also GART support for all supported cards - i.e. faster memory/DMA handling.
And maybe the UVD support inside RadeonHD theoretically works for all cards, and reason what it works only on HD-SI and Polaris is present firmwares in SYS:Firmware/

But you are right the info about RadeonHD V5 is very short.
I will test all with my X1000 and let know.

There probably will be a digital download when/if enough people bought the boxed version to cover the costs for the (imo) completely superfluous box...but of course I don't know that...maybe a digital version has yet to be created from scratch, who knows, lha-ing the iso and uploading to AmiSphere might be too hard?

RadeonHD v5 only supports the Southern Islands range, so it's not usable with the older Radeon HD 6000.

Unfortunately, this was the only feasible way to add UVD and GART. Previous versions were based on older driver code which AMD & open-source driver developers no longer maintain. Back-porting isn't realistic.

Ok, thanks for a clear answer! That saved me from buying a driver which is of no use for me. I will continue to use Linux/VLC for videos which is not a bad option - just a few reboots more .

what's new there?
e.g. digital port support? audio support?

on the amigakit page it is written:
"RadeonHD PCI Express Graphics Card (official compatibility list)"

where is this list?

a dedicated list of all cards - especially which ones are receommended for the different machines (x5000) would be very welcome.

thanks and regards
Michael

- Video decoding support
- GART support
- Dynamic power management
- Dropped support for older graphics cards (older than the Southern Islands series)

No idea where the list is, but here's what RadeonHD.chip v5 supports:
- Radeon HD 77xx-79xx series graphics card (excluding the Radeon HD 7790)
- Radeon R7 240D/240/250/250E/250X/265
- Radeon R9 270/270X/280/280X

What to recommend depends on what people's needs are. Generally, I recommend Polaris cards. They support 4K (UHD) resolutions, the video decoder is much better than Southern Islands, and they generally perform well.

If you need a cheap low-power one, then Radeon RX 550. Those wanting the highest performance should go with a higher end RadeonRX 5xx.

The only time I'd suggest an older Radeon HD 7xxx or Radeon Rx 2xx series card, would be on platforms whose firmware can't handle Polaris cards (X1000 & Sam460). However, people have been able to get Polaris cards working on both, with the caveat that you can't see UBoot/CFE.

HINT: Both UBoot & CFE can print to the serial port, and read key presses over serial. This can be used to work around being unable to display on the monitor.

Good to know.

I almost tossed my HD6450 during testing because it would not boot.

Thanks Hans. Very welcome!
So HDMI is a must for the card to support currently.
And the RX cards are supported by that driver? All HD and the RX cards, right? Just because you did not mention them in the list.
I find it in general very confusing regarding the naming of all cards ...

I think I will head for a RX cards to finally make my eizo happy.

Thanks and regards...

No. Radeon RX cards are supported via the RadeonRX.chip driver. The RadeonHD.chip driver is for older cards.

ok... so that one is of no use for RX cards: radeon on amigakit

is there a radeon RX V5 driver?
are they completely independent? so the RX driver cannot be bought separately and is part of enhancer 2.1/2? i see a
- RadeonRX.chip V2.8
- RadeonHD.chip V3.7
being installed from enhancer 2.1 on my x5000 currently.

i don't understand all those different products

regards...
