Good morning to everyone! I'm Kirirur, I'm new to this forum but not to Amiga.
I'm from Italy, and my first Amiga was an A500 that after spent some time only to play with, I started to "discover" it full potential and so I upgraded first with a RAM expansion board and then with the A590 (if I recall correctly) the external HDD!
Many years have passed now and I don't remember if I have upgraded also its ROM with 3.1 Kickstart but I believe so.
Nevertheless, after the A500 I bought the A1200, its last configuration was in a Tower, with BlizzardPPC+BVision, SCSI HDD and CDRW.
some years ago I've found the emulation with Cloanto Amiga Forever and FS-UAE and more recently I've bought AmigaOS 4.1 and installed on my emmulated A4000.
Unfortunately I don't have any real hardware but I'm spending some time porting on AOS4 a couple of old projects of mine.
I'm currently trying to port on AmigaOS 4 a couple of old projects just for "fun" although comparing the tools available (today and then), compared to what is available on other platforms (e.g. Windows), we were pioneers!
I'm sorry you don't have any hardware to run AmigaOS - let alone OS4 on.
It's great to run the classic and live in the past, but we could always use more soldiers on the front lines trying to move AmigaOS into the future! ;)
Maybe Hyperion will finally make some progress on getting you a Mirari with OS4 on it??
Otherwise, patience is a lesson to learn in the Amiga world... Two more weeks!!
Thank you, but at least I can enjoy the beauty of AmigaOS 4! If only we had it when Amiga/Commodore was still alive... but I really appreciate the effort Hyperion put in it and still some updates continue to come.
I'm wondering how it would run beautifully on modern real hardware.
Btw: which browser an OS4 user would use? I've tryied IBrowse 2 and 3, OWB, Odyssea but well.. even surfing Amiga oriented website is difficult. I honestly found IBrowse 3 the more stable and reliable, I've recently tried NetSurf, but it didn't work, every website I've tried it say it cannot react it! :-O
Hello right back. That's a nice A500 you had, I still have one. It's in working order but basically without upgrades. AmigaOS is and has been actually quite nice for most of its run, despite the lack of development.
re: Browsers - unfortunately that's a weak spot now on OS4, and I guess most of the alternate world.
I use IBrowse 3 (OS4 native) most of the time on my OS4 machines. Netsurf is also a good option. Odyssey can do more HTML5 stuff, but it's behind on all the javascript & security demands and is generally unrealiable, so you see a lot of blank pages & crashes.
There are a few other efforts to try to get a more modern browser to the Amiga, but so far they are all still in the works. Remember... Patience!!
OTOH, I have to say that a lot of general purpose, non-spyware sites do seem to work for me in IBrowse even if the page layout is kinda messed up. It's almost like having a backdoor into the web.
Of course, using IBrowse also provides the accessibility of an Amiga app... macros & helpers... being able to get to contents, play videos, etc. But I'm partial to that. ;D
Yeah I'm currently using AmigaOs 4.1 FE Update 3 in that way, I'm using FS-UAE.
@pjs
I've tryied NetSurf, but I don't know why it cannon navigate in my environment, it seems like I was offline but it's not the case since I can surf with IBrowse or Odyssey.
