What I believe is needed is more awareness of the available applications and some tutorials (articles or videos) on how things can be done.
I second that, especially with regard to VideoClipper. It has something of a learning curve, and when I first started to play with it I struggled to understand how to use it. Because of that I found it more frustrating than useful, and ended up setting it aside for some time.
I later took another shot at it, and with some more playing started to get a better feel for how it works and how to use it. At that point it started to become useful. Though I suspect I'm still making use of only a small portion of its capabilities, and that there may be better ways to do what I'm trying to do, if only I knew what they were.
Other potential users may have the same problem, and may not realize that VideoClipper can already do what they're asking for.

This is a good point. Now that I'm retired, and have time, I can put some effort into creating some tutorials.
The VideoClipper manual covers the individual controls reasonably well; for me the problem is understanding the high-level concepts behind what the program is doing (such as what actually happens when you create clips and then join them together).
The "usage" section of the manual could be enhanced to add more detail on how to perform some of the basic editing tasks that users might be attempting. Not at the level of detailing every button press, but more along the lines of describing the necessary steps (how to load the source video, what kind of edits can be made, how to create the clips and what can be done with them, etc.).

Hurry up and do so, please, before you realize that the terms being retired and having time are not necessarily congruent.
I second that as well. When I retired some years back I thought I'd have more Amiga time than before, but it hasn't worked out that way.
Regarding VideoClipper, I've done a few tests. As I mentioned on the French Amiga-NG forum, it's essentially our iMovie (retro style), you can quickly assemble video clips with transitions, add background music, subtitles, and so on.
The only feature I find missing (or haven't figured out how to use) is the ability to display a static image for a specific duration or number of frames. (This is useful for a slide show, or for opening and ending screens.) I had to use rnoSlide for that.
Also, perhaps relabel the button that exports our project as a video to something clearer, like "Save Video" or "Export Video".
By the way, thanks for your software! I've been using FFmpegGUI a lot lately."
I have to third the comment on the VideoClipper user interface. I also downloaded and tried a number of versions out and had a hard time making heads or tails of how to make it work.
Just like with FFMpegGUI, it seems like there's a *TON* of ffmeg's powers being offered in all the buttons, sliders, tabs and all. Clearly a *TON* of work had gone into making both programs.
But I couldn't see a clear path through the forest. As you mentioned, @msteed, it felt like if I devoted a lot more time & effort to figuring out the terminolgy, the sequence of actions needed, what is where, etc, etc. I could be put to good use. I just haven't gotten there.
Even more documentation and tutorials could help all this, but I also wonder if a GUI redesign would most effectively open VideoClipper to a lot more people. From my experience, people just do not read (more than 160 chars?)...
:/
...and then all you guys talk about having less time in retirement!! That's not discouraging at all!!
;D
Sorry, @ktadd, one of these days (before I retire??) I need to spend more time with VideoClipper to give it the appreciation it seems to deserve.
Ktadd, congratulations on your retirement! I envy your available time for doing what you want. I need to find some time to make some good use of your software. It has been too long!

VideoClipper doesn't support that feature yet. I'm putting some thought into how to add it. In the meantime, you can use ffmpeggui to create videos from pictures.
There are 2 saved preset files that can do what you want. Start ffmpeggui and perform the following steps:
1. Click the select setup drop-down and select load setup. 2. Select the Video drawer and load one of the setup files named "Single_picture_audio_to_video....". Which one to select depends on the video encoding you want to use. 3. Set "input 0" to the picture you want to use. 4. Set "input 1" to the audio file you want to add. 5.By default the video will be as long as the audio file. To make it shorter, click on "shortest" to deselect it and set "duration" to the length you want the video to be. 6. If you don't want audio, set the duration as indicated in step 5 and don't set "Input 1". Then go to the audio tab and set "codec" to "default and click "Disable Audio". 8. Change video or audio settings as desired, with the exception of video codec. 9. Click "Start" and your video will be created. 10. Now insert the video into the "video Files List" in Video clipper where you would like it to be included.
ffmpeg also has some settings files, in the "graphics" directory, that let you make videos from pictures while applying a zoom effect. For example, zoom to center, zoom to top left, etc.
Just like with FFMpegGUI, it seems like there's a *TON* of ffmeg's powers being offered in all the buttons, sliders, tabs and all.
ffmpegGUI has many settings files that you can load to get you started and makes it easier to use the program.
VideoClipper has some profile settings that allow you to just choose one and not worry about all the video and audio settings for encoding. I should update those.
If you turn on "hints" there are tips that should be helpful.

I hear what you are saying and would love to hear specific suggestions for improvements. It's hard to include the features people are asking for and keep the interface simple. Especially with the limited interface elements offered by OS4.
It would be easier to make a bunch of simple tools that do simple things, like just join a bunch of videos that are all the same size and formats. (Ie. A bunch of separate videos taken from the same camera.). Is that what users want?
Of course if I do that, then I suspect people would ask for more features, then eventually I end up where the tools are now. That's how ffmpeggui, Videoclipper and Simplesub all started.
I'm thinking of starting a blog on how to create Videos on AmigaOS4 using my tools. Maybe that will help?
If people are interested in discussing this further, I'll start a new thread. Of course things like port OpenShot or some other big program are not feasible for me, since I'm one person and do all my development on an X1000.
Regarding opening new thread that would be nice! I am using video cliper on my x5000, also I think that back in time I contacted you for something about that app, but now I can not remember for what ;)
But, I hope that there will be new version of Video Cliper!
