AmigaOne Battery Q.
Quite a regular

See User information
I have an AmigaOne XE 800 MHz. (For those that don't know.)

The last time I put in a new battery was Jan. 2007, about 1 year, 8 months ago.

I think that I had the original settings in UBoot, so then after that installed the upgrade of AOS4.0 pre-R 4 and new UBoot, which it is at now.

Question is, when I replace the battery, do I have like 20-30 seconds, that if I put the new battery in in time, I do not need to reinstall UBoot?

Heh, also, maybe someone could give me the battery serial no.? (I'm sure it's SOMEWHERE around here. )

I think it's a major disappointment that if someone found an AmigaOne 30 years from now and can't use it, simply because that battery may not exist anymore.

Support Amiga Fantasy cases!!!
How to program: 1. Start with lots and lots of 0's. 10. Add 1's, liberally.

UBoot is in flash memory and needs no power to survive. The battery is a CR2032. I don't think that this type will be disappear - it is used in many devices. And I think you can save your NVRAM settings with prefs/UBoot.

Hi @Flinx

Nope. Use a shell and use OS4:> nvgetvar. I saved mine on a USB drive and printed it out.

I see now that this was your first post! Welcome to an official AmigaOne hangout! Nothing too shocking is going on, or maybe ...

Sure you can,

UBoot Prefs - Pull Down Menu - Save Configuration as... - give name and off you go

True, but the UBoot variables may need resetting after changing the battery.

In one of my A1s, I have implemented the ultimate remedy against that; I soldered two battery holders together in parallel, so I can put in the new battery before removing the old one -- all while having the machine powered down, of course. I'm planning to do the same mod to the other one.

Best regards,

Niels

I'm not sure that this method saves all the UBoot settings to file? At least it dosen't on my ?A1-C, which I only found out after recently changing the battery.
IMHO the best method is to print the output from nvgetvar as mentioned already?

It does, both the files created are exactly the same size,
hence nvgetvar saves it it in a more readable manner.

I saved the variables with UBoot Prefs & tried to load them back in after a battery change a few months ago, no go. A printed copy of nvgetvar saved me a lot of work getting them all put back.
