Anyone working on....

Hi All

Apologies if you've heard this before, however as you may know the Vintage Computing Festival - Amiga25th Anniversary festival is only 6 weeks away.

I would very much like to have an AmigaOS4.1 Computer streaming webcam pictures somewhere, I am pretty sure we can sort out a server for it, but the big bug bear is that there is no USB support for Webcam. Anyone working on a solution that will be ready on time?

If not, perhaps Microphone support for streaming? - Otherwise, we are gonna have to use a Windows Machine, just won't look good, but if needs must, needs must.

I'll leave it at that.

I think the chances of support for a WebCam is very unlikely, the software stack is simply too complex for anything like that to "suddenly" appear.

Audio streaming is a different matter, but I don't know if anyone is working on such a thing at the moment.

Hi, another option would be to beg, borrow (or buy and return within thirty days), an IP webcam.

I think web cam software is very important and should be high on the priority list.

This would be a good project for the donate Sam program, specifically for a talented programmer like Michel Xhaard, a Linux developer who alone wrote, by 2007, 235 webcam drivers.

Linux uses V4L protocol between the application and USB driver.

I believe there usb streaming support or some thing like that is missing USB1.1 drivers, USB 2.0 is on its way, so hope better support is added there.

I wrote a program that supports few webcams. You can have a look at :
http://amigadev.free.fr/sonix/

I added the network support to push images to an FTP server with a given delay.

Our problem for speed and microphone support is the lack of the isochronous mode. So, the bulk mode has to be used but very few webcams support it.

I would be proud if you could use this program at the show and I am ok to send you a working webcam (I have several ones).

Apart from eating my words, I notice that it was recently updated too:

Yes, I've updated this archive with the support of the FTP and the Macally Icecam, so Mikey could be able to find a webcam for the show.

I forgot to change the version though ...

Then upload a new archive with an higher version number. It's important to keep things coherent for new comers...
