Update 1 net troubles SOLVED

So I will just recap the story...

I installed update 1 with no trouble. However, I could not get an internet connection no matter what.

My AmigaONE is connected through a Netgear Powerline system in the office. My modem and router are in the living room feeding - among other - a powerline.

This setup worked fine with OS4.1. Now - nothing.

Finally I moved the Amiga and monitor to the living room and connected it directly to router. Made a new clean install, and then... it worked!

I left the Amiga in the living room - booted up again next morning and everything worked perfectly.

Then I moved Amiga and monitor back to the office - connected to the powerline... and of course - no internet...

I need help - either a solution or just an explanation?

How does the network connection differ between your office & living room? (e.g. different cable, longer cable, goes via a network switch, and so on)

It connected via a Netgear Powerlink. That's a small box you plug in your electrical sockets around the house. One box is connected to the router. The others can be placed in electrical sockets in any room providing wired internet throughout the house.

Like this: http://www.netgear.com/Products/Power ... hernetAdapters/XE104.aspx

This setup worked nicely before the update. Now nothing...

Thats strange. I thought those things just worked like there was a cable between them (emulating a direct connection).
Maybe one of the powerline adaptors are broken, did you test any other computer with the adapters ?

I often connect my laptop to the plug in the living room. Tonight I can try to use it with the one in the office...

You are correct, it does basically look like a (rather slow) ethernet cable. So I have no idea why it would cause problems either, unless the power link itself is faulty.

@skov
Can you ping your router? What does the ShowNetStatus command report?

When I tried setting up my Sam in the living room via powerline adapters, I had to give it up. There was too much noise on my power grid from my energy saving lamps and fluorescent tubes (sparep?rer og lysstofr?r). When I turned all of those off in the house, leaving only the very few traditional light bulbs we have, the connection would work, but it's no fun computing in the dark - well, not for any length of time anyway .

Others say they haven't had this problem even though they are using energy saving lamps etc., so YMMV. But it's worth checking out.

Mine are ZyXel PLA401 v2, BTW.

Best regards,

Niels

Edit: P.S. But of course this doesn't necessarily explain why it worked for you before the update and not after.

Well, this one is tested. I took the cable that worked with the Amiga in the living room and used it to connect the powerline and the Amiga - still no net...

I guess I'll have to buy a 15 meter cable that I will put in the router when I want to use the Amiga...

Not a nice solution - but it will work.

Hi @Skov

I have also a powerline and for me it works also with update 1, no problems.

I just did put "run >nil:" in front of the networkline in startup-sequence and
added the network + host in the internetprefs and i was online.

I do not understand why your powerline worked with 4.1 and not with the
update 1, strange.

Please answer my two questions above.

@Dirk-B
Skov's power link thing probably broke conincidentally. No good reason for it to not work with OS4 (and btw I use one via a network switch without problems).

Sorry, Chris!

I completely missed your question! Well, I tried pinging it a couple of days ago, and it told me it could not ping the router. Can't remember the exact error message...

I will try Shownetstatus when I get back from work tonight!

I tried typing shownetstatus... this is what it says...

local host address: 0.0.0.0 (on interface eth3com)

default gateway: (not configured)

domain name: 127.0.0.1

So this is obviously wrong... I tried pinging and it said "no route to host"...

I will bring my laptop back from in the next few days, and then I will test the laptop with the powerlink using the very same cable that is connected to the Amiga!

I think that would be a very good idea! DHCP is obviously failing. Setting a static IP address/etc might help.

BTW, I have seen (Windows) DHCP have trouble with buggy power link devices in the past.

Well, I got home and tried it with my laptop... and it didn't work...

So, I tried disconnecting both the powerlinks completely - then letting them lie and think about what they had done - and then I tried again.

I really took it step by step again. Connecting one to the socket, then to the router, connecting the next one to a socket, then to the Amiga...

And hey - it works perfectly now! :)

Feeling a bit silly though... Like calling a hotline and being told to reboot... Oh well, it doesn't matter now!

Thanks to all the guys who tried to help!
