Mine should be here soon!

My A1's getting all sulky because she thinks I'm dumping her for a newer, cuter girl...

I'm concerned. According to the tracking number, your package has been signed for already.

Double the ram

This gets mentioned quite a bit as an advantage of the Flex, but what the hell are you going to do with 1024MB of RAM? I mean, 512MB is already a LOT by Amiga standards, and virtual memory should (when Sam OS4 bug fixed) should cover the cases where you need a little more.

The only thing I can think of is compiling some huge program (perhaps Firefox , but of course that would only apply to a few developers & not most people.

It can also be useful for the future games we'll have on our Amiga(s) and that'll use 3D ;)
(maybe games developed with AmiDARK Engine :p )

I have a Flex with 2x512Mo RAM ... And it's quite nice ... I can have OWB / IBrowse with 2 windows opened on net OpenGL / C documentations, samples, tutorials, ...
Have Cubic IDE opened with source code (as a 2nd screen) and CodeBENCH opened with the main project file for compilation ... and it's smooth :p
It'll probably work the same with 512Mo ... but it can allow us be sure we have more than we need ;) for everything we do :p

All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.

With 1024mb ram he can unpack bigger archives to ram:. To use ram instead of harddisk for stuff like that

I used to run low with 512MB ram. I dont know why. 1GB is very comfortable now. I usually run every app at once when my computer is running. It would really bug me when the machine would semi grind to a halt while trying to compile things using paged ram. Better than crashing.. but 1GB ram is better than both of those things.

That's fairly insane! (Especially given RAM disk is not optimised for that kind of thing.) I have a large Temp partition for that kind of stuff

OS4.1 with QuickFix on Sam440 has a bug that eats memory at about 38MB/hour. Given I start with 350-400MB free after booting, that means all memory will be lost in about 10 hours (or a lot less if you have programs actually using memory!).

With 1024MB, it should take up to 24 hours for all memory to be wasted...

Even though of course that was the only answer it still bruised my feelings... it was just a jest... Excuse me while I go out and back and destroy that A1 MB... The Sams want me to do it and hmmm, it would give me more room back in my Sig... LOL

Come on ACube! I just cleared my Visa completely... I have room for a $4,000.00 CPU!!! Woo WOo!

Seems like there won't be a sam for me afterall.

I was 2 inches away from ordering a flex, when the BIG news arrived. Might get a flex at a later time to show my support for acube.
