Ta. That doesn't happen here on a SAM460, but the trace is v useful. I'll have a look at the weekend.

Could you be a liitle more precise wiith the tools not working? I dont get any issues here like that. What hardware and OS version are you using?
Crash log can be senrt to me at the email in the readme.

@walkero
Any critical bugs will be fixed in 1.3, but the focus is in getting MS2 more feature complete. The 1.3 code is of such poor quality, that the only thing to learn, would be the wrong way of doing many, many things.

@benny
Well spotted with the pdf default tool
I've still got the old versions of the .so files on my system. You should be able to make links to the newer versions rather than clog up you drive with multiple copies of the same file or rename newer versions. I'll check that works later and update the readme if appropriate.

So after a quick check:

Current version is linked to libcairo.so so the following are needed
libpng16.so.16.20.0 which can just be a softlink to libpng.so
libfreetype.so.18, which can just be a softlink to libfreetype.so

eg makelink sobjs:libpng.so.16.20.0 sobjs:libpng.so
etc

MindSpace diagram and vector drawing app
Just popping in
Just popping in

Hi folks,

After a lengthy hiatus, it looks like I might have a bit of time to work on MindSpace over the next few months.

As a starting point, I have recompiled MindSpace 1.3 and the (very early) work done so far on MIndSpace 2. Both programs are in a single archive, currently sitting in the OS4depot upload queue.

MindSpace 1.3a is a drawing app that enables the user to create mindmaps, UML diagrams and daft bits of clipart style graphics.

MindSpace 2 is a complete rewrite and a much more ambitious program (think Inkscape-lite). Key improvements include the ability to work with mutliple views of multiple documents, better colour handling, transparency etc. The current version is very much incomplete, with many key features (such as save/load, undo/redo) not yet implemented. However, there is enough of a program there to play with and to get some feedback on.

There is a fantastically out-of-date 1990s style website for some basic info, screenshots of MindSpace 1.3 etc

Feedback and ideas always welcome, but maybe have a read of the readme files before pointing out things that are already documented... ;)

The 5th annual Recursion Computer Science Fair will take place at King Edward VI School, Stratford-upon-Avon on Sat 17 Feb from 11.00-15.00.

As in previous years, the fair is a mix of "ancient and modern", aiming to celebrate the past whilst encouraging the next generation of software developers and engineers.

There will be over 50 classic consoles and computers to have a play with, including many Amiga, AROS and MorphOS machines. Other highlights include the ever popular FizzPop makerspace team and numerous VR games to try out.

Recursion is a family orientated event - show your kids what the good olddays of computing were like!

Completely free to all visitors! Photos from previous fairs and further info can be found on our student-maintained website: www.recursioncomputerfair.co.uk

There's no svg import and it's mostly aimed towards simple UML style diagrams, mind-maps etc, but MindSpace will output svg

@virgola

Many thanks for the extensive feedback - this kind of support is far more useful and motivating than donations at the moment :)

What screen resolution are you using? I'll add a set of toolbars to load automatically.

I'll certainly look into the unresponsive toolbar editor window and the Object window drop shadow artefact.

I need to update the rendering code a bit before allowing off-page shapes.

Menus need to be re-written to follow the new style/guidelines. I plan to move "Diagram Props" entry into the Project menu and will rename the Diagram menu as suggested.

userMSOs will (eventually) work in the same way as in the original MindSpace. A bit like customisable brushes - you will be able to group objects and create a toolbar of your own shapes. It will be possible to load/save banks of userMSOs.

Many many items are not yet implemented (proper flipping, rotate, undo. save, gradients etc). I know I ought to disable icons that aren't done, but I'm far too lazy...The readme.txt is fairly uptodate with what has been implemented. Text is really not started and it will be quite a while before I get round to anything more complete than what is now available.

tooltips - the "real" ones can't be used across multiple toolbar-style windows, so I have had to implement my mine. When I get round to the interface prefs, it wil be possible to switch these off. I've added a note to myself to close the tooltip window if the pointer moves out of the button (rather than just a timed delay). Turning off the highlight for selected objects will also be an interface prefs option.All windows will be snapshot-able - I imagine most users will set up their interface and then keep it more-or-less the same. I might add different layout profiles at some point.

I won't be adding scrollbars etc to the toolbars - I want to keep them as slim as possible, although there will be more columns/rows available in the future. It will be a long time before I tackle the toolbar editor in any great detail again - I need to crack with other core features first.

Lock and flip icons have been changed (I think I was using a very old AISS list).

I like your key-qualifier ideas and have added these to the "do now" list!

zoom-to-fit - well spotted - it's actually zoom to 100%

Work-in-Progress v0.06 of MindSpace 2 is now available from here.

Main additions:
- can open on WB screen
- more flowchart shapes added
- snap-to-grid/show grid
- line shapes more or less work :)
- align, distribute and match size functions added
- a few bug fixes

Readme.txt

All feedback welcomed as always.

@pjs
Although MindSpace exports svg, I'm a long way from adding inport support and full svg compliance is a very, very long way off.

As well as Chris' newer efforts, there's an existing svg.datatype on OS4depot (from Salass?) which MindSpace 1 uses for its anti-aliased display.

Align and distribute tools have now been implemented and I've added Single Window mode to the long-term plan.

Re: MindSpace

@nbache
Hi Niels - thanks for the feedback.

Text is v limited at the moment; I didn't want to do too much work on this until I've vaguely figured out how to use freetype properly with Cairo. For the moment you could add an "invisible" shape over the top of the other object.

Lines are awful at the moment and connectors non existant. Eventually MindSpace 2 will have the same set of connector features as MS1.

The current build now opens on the Workbench if required, but I'm trying to find a nice way to move and resize the toolbars without havin the huge dragbars that normal windows have. Using WA_ToolBox is great for avoiding losing focus from the main window, but a pain if other messages are actually needed.

Re: Screen rotation

Hmm. On closer inspection the monitor itself isn't actually designed to be rotated - so no built-in sensors, it's just mounted on a vesa stand that allows rotation.

@Severin
I suppose it would need a manually set up monitor file with rotated screen modes defined and a comodity using compositing to rotate the data."

That's what I thought - I just hoped someone else had aready done it !

Screen rotation

Just popping in

I've just acquired a monitor capable of 1920 x 1200 resolution that sits in a ball and socket joint allowing the screen to rotate physically from landscape to portrait. On linux and Windows, I can rotate the display image itself with a key combo. Is there such a feature or a commodity or docky that does the same under OS4?

Ta.

@benitosub

Excellent news. I'll be pledging.

Could you clarify that providing you reach the 46k stretch goal that backers can choose to have a OS4 or Morphos copy of the game instead of the Win/Linux/Mac version?

With regards the boxed copy - does that contain versions for all platforms of will there be a separate product for each of the main platforms?
