So, we all know we miss browser, that already in the work, but what else we miss which we want to see on OS4 ?
I want to make some poll there, where we can collect which software (not browser) we also miss and want to have as well, as which game we want to have there.
I don't mean only opensource software/games : those we can suggest too, but i'm talking about _any_ software _any_ game you find very good to have on os4.
Of course, video editing software can be a limited factor too, as raw CPU power may not be enough for heavy functions modern video software have. But anyway, feel free to suggest it too.
Plz, give the software and games there you want to see on os4, more the better. And as i say it not need to be opensource one (through if it open source, it will be of course better), point is to make reimplementation from scratch, with amigaos4 in mind, and it's special functionality, with usage of reaction/mui whatever. Just originals will be taken as reference to mimic the look/feel and functionality to maximum possible level.
Any productivity software that is sorely lacking right now—even the basics: - Video editing - CNC control - 3D printing - Laser cutting - vinyl cutting - Arduino IDE and USB drivers for Arduino boards!!!
@All Keep them coming! Those should be somehow be usable for most of us, not just for some.. Video editor with MLT engine surely possible, just it will be not as fast as we hope. Yeah, GPU can be used for, but when it will be about speed of memory and CPU ..
@Mufa You mean old Age of Empires 1 / 2 or recent one ? And for Jedi you mean Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II, 1997 and Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, 2002 ? Isn't those already ported ?
3D graphics: A newer version of Blender using Mesa would make it usable.
PDF: I really miss a GUI editor able to open and modify my PDFs, something for changing the text, adding new text, copying or moving objects around the page, merging PDFs, removing single pages.
We all know we’re missing a browser; work is already underway on that. But what else are we missing—what do we wish for regarding OS4?
– AmigaOS 4.1 itself. A new kernel with SMP support is nice, certainly, but to make it interesting to me, the rest of AmigaOS 4.1 would also need to be re-implemented as well — to finally get rid of Hyperion, A-EON, etc., who for about 20 years have done nothing at all but hinder further development of AmigaOS 4.x. The most challenging parts are verly likely dos.library, intuition.library and graphics.library, and maybe reimplementing ClassAct/ReAction with all of it's classes. Additionally the new kernel should support 64 bit addresses, direct accesss to memory above 4 GB, without ugly workarounds like ExtMem. Of course only possible for new software supporting it, but that's the same for the ExtMem workaround, and in large parts even "just" for the SMP support. - An IPv6 TCP/IP stack. Apparently already worked on by ACube, but very important for any networking software. - A current E-Mail client with all usual features of current ones. Preferably ThunderBird, which shouldn't be a big problem with a FireFox based browser port available. - A new AmigaOS file system. AFAIK NGFS/1 is still only availbale to X1000 and X5000 users, and only on request directly from it's author. SFS isn't usable for partitions larger than about 100 GB (doesn't scale to much larger sizes than the about 100 MB partition sizes it was implemented for), and not at all for SSDs and NVMe (no TRIM support).
- https://shadered.org - https://www.tmog.org (tricky without APIs) - anything to do with audio, music, daws, synths, tuners, effects - proper audio API - text editor with focus mode, dark themes, markdown support - SVG editor with image/icon export
