I’m grateful for what was done, I argued and defended AmigaOS4, gotten my share of bans on amigaworld.net, in retrospect I’m not sure was right about ArticaS, fixing it software was not correct way, the IRQ issues, a lot time was wasted because of buggy hardware, its of course, nice. They managed to get AmigaONE-XE to run stable, and got fpu emulation working on the A1222 but was this really good use of developers time? I think not.

what is correct why to do it? get it from the interface?
Sorry, I don't remember, it's been about 20-25 years ago since I did any serious AmigaOS 4.x development... But one of the arguments the _start() function of PPC native executables, no matter if ELF REL (ancient AmigaOS 4.x versions, no idea if still supported) or ELF EXEC (current) called by dos.library, either gets a pointer to SysBase or to IExec in it's arguments (IIRC r4), and both are interchangeable and don't prevent SMP. Accessing the unmaped zero page, incl. **4, causes an exception, and either isn't usable at all for SMP, or causes huge additional work.
Porting over Linux TCP/IP stack, for IPv6 support, Tunneling support, DNS trees. And everything else missing.
There's this for IPv6 (I haven't tried it). It's for 68k but presumably porting it to OS4 will be easier than porting something from Linux (or more likely BSD):
@afxgroup: Thank you for explaining your motivation and give a little bit more inside into your thought process. I get your points.
The only thing I am still thinking of (and this is no offense):
I am not an attorney and the contract between Trevor and Hyperion about the kernel is very tight, but maybe there is a way to use an alternative kernel without breaking the contract. So asking them like: "Hey, I am experimenting with an alternative kernel and make good progress. Is there a legal way that you guys could use it with AOS4 instead of ExecSG?" Maybe the answer would have been: "No, sorry, not possible with the current contract." anyway, but now we don´t know.
But anyway: Good work, keep it going, who knows, what the future holds for us.
Working as developer for AEON / Hyperion means signing a NDA, .
I never spoke about A-EON but Hyperion. As I said: I was in the AOS4-community for 20 years, mainly as editor for two German Amiga magazines. So I know the "dramas" in the background too well. The point is: There are tensions between Hyperion and Trevor/AmigaKit for years. This is one of the reasons because there is still no port for Mirari. I know that Hyperion is looking for a solution for this situation, especially regarding the kernel. An alternative kernel could maybe have been a solution, done the right way (in a legal sense).
So a little talk before releasing the kernel wouldnt´t have hurt and maybe would have brought a solution. That´s all I say.

My guess is that afxgroup would like to keep the kernel open source and Hyperion would not. I can understand the reasoning from both sides, and it makes sense from each of their prospectives.
The stuff that is not open is developed at glacier pace and is seldom available to the non-NDA club until years or never. Other such stuff is forever teased and promised but stalled for lack of resouces including developer talent. There are two entities releasing (or more often NOT releasing outside the aforementioned NDA club) stuff that is sometimes needed together and sometimes incompatible with each other.
I am more and more liking this notion that independent talent can work on and release independent projects that normal users can utilize or not. It's very good that this OS is so modular. And this new AI technology to lend a helping hand has merit and offers benefit. This new assisting technology is also available to those pushing NDA papers. Maybe development of some of that stuff can be sped up and made available to long suffering non-NDA users.

Maybe I contradict my last statements (although I already said, maybe I was too pessimistic) you could be right. There is too much drama and not so much progress.
@afxgroup Would it be possible to use your new kernel on old PowerPC Macs? I have quite a few PowerPC Macs laying unused in the wardrobe that I would love to use with AmigaOS 4.1 FE!
From AROS seen I would say the platform wins that best integrates and optimizes using AI in development process. The time of the classical specialized developers is dawning, now it becomes much easier to realize your ideas.
I know that there are lots of people who have problems with that, typical certainly for retro communities where not only users but also many developers are at a higher age. But to me it is a kind of luck, the best what could have happen. It will bring huge progress and new developments to the users and make the programmers much more productive. But it is different kind of development of course. i myself start to use it for my distribution.
I use Claude and am really enthusiastic. It is useful even for more exotic platforms like ours. I have already used it to create a TEX-Viewer for Hollywood 11 using HTEX Plugin and for a cli conversion tool (DOCX in RTF) in EVO. And for testing I created a picture viewer using datatypes. All these programs needed less than 10 minutes to do, even with corrections. Unbelievable. Also it supports Regina (REXX) and AREXX, you can let it convert between both, ACE Basic, FPC, Amiblitz, AMOS including Unity. I am still at the start of my journey and look forward to it ;). The list of supported script languages and high languages is certainly even higher. I will dig deeper there too ;).
I have not done any research about AmigaOS4 there but I assume situation is similar.
How should I describe it? You are less programmer but more like a project manager keeping the overview and give orders and talk to the developers, the hard work is done by the AI. I understand that classical developers have a problem with that because for many the journey is more important than to reach the place and of course being experienced amiga developer was something special. Now it becomes much easier even for less experienced developers. But if you look at the situation we were in, it is a big chance.

@Olaf I dont want to lecture of course, and sound like someone who know more or pretend to be a teacher of any sort, but : you still didntvrealise what happen today. You say you didnt do any research about amigaos4 : you dont need to do any research. As i said its everywhere. There no special aros progress, or os4 progress, or morphos progress. Everything the same now. If you real developer and quality tester: this all gift from heaven. And yes, for real developers too. All i do now happens much faster. And that not vibe coding.
Ppls who afraid AI somehow think to black and white. They thibk AI kill creativity! AI ADD creativity! It help to understand rgings faster. It help to connect monotone routine things faster. It help code faster. Yes, still you (human) code 8f you want ! It me know where things should be and I say to ai how it better for os4. Its me know week sides of os4 and with it in mind working on something with help of AI.
Those who against, think about only vibe coding and fear new tool. Bad for them.
And to put it more: you still didnt see real power of it : i as developer see it. You say avout hollywood app: that minimal of posdibilities ! Give me -any- PC app or game, just name it, and i will make initial os4/aros/mos version in a 3 days. Then few fix bug hunting and testing. All will be c and c++. For last 3 days i working on port of Unity based game, writing my os4 runtime (of course AI help on boring bits), and it 300 fps in x1000 and looks like something absolutly impossible.
There no more stop factors for any software.
Only fear it will not last long. Soon corporates will realise that it should be blocked for casuals and keeps it for govs and big corps. My hope China will not make it happens, even if their AI not as good as claude and codex, for now, at least. At minimum they already block security kind prompt and biology, but soon they will block usage of disassemblers. Becayse now i can mimic any software , make a differen skin and sold out as my. This surely will be controled
