Re: Switch between many amigaos4 machines
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

@kas1e

My experience audio mixing is limited to "left" and "right" audio.

During my days in the Canadian telecom industry, we used digital data combiner bridges made by many companies. Most were used for master/slave operations, where a "master" computer polled many remote "slave" devices. All the slave devices listened to the master and only replied when given permission.

Your application is the reverse. One terminal listening to four computers.

If you are only dealing with data in one direction, a simple TTL or CMOS 4-port OR-gate should work as the combiner. But you would need to translate RS-232 voltages down to the TTL/CMOS logic voltage levels used by the OR-gate. This circuit becomes more complicated if you need to pass RS-232 control signals as well as data. In theory you don't need to pass data back from your terminal to the active computer.

Another device I saw years ago was a standalone device with five serial ports. This device contained a Z80 CPU, ROM, RAM and serial ports. It could be used in the master/slave polling environment (master computer polling four slave devices), or four computers sharing a serial printer.

I don't know of any companies that sell these devices.

@walkero

I downloaded MediaVault today. I like it very much. Currently using AmigaAMP3 as default.

I used the auto update feature to update to version 1.5.1.

Occasionally I get a requester to assign https: ... not sure if this comes from MediaVault or AmigaAMP. I think it happens if the AmigaAMP window is already open and I attempt to choose a different radio station. As long as I close the original AmigaAMP window, choose a different station and click the MediaVault button, everything seems to work ok.

I really like listening to streaming music via AmigaAMP while surfing the net with IBrowse 2.5.7.

Your program makes this so easy. Thanks so much.

@walkero

After all these years, I would not expect a programmer to support AmigaOS 4.0.

In general, I think it makes sense to target the most recent publicly available version of AmigaOS4.

So, for now that would be AmigaOS 4.1 FE Update 2

For example, if a new program requires Enhancer components, then it would be polite to specify that in the requirements.

For example, one program I use needs several of the Enhancer Core classes. These requirements are specified in the docs and on OS4Depot.

In my own case, I am limited by my hardware.

My MicroA1 is an excellent little system for my needs, but I am limited to the onboard Radeon 7000 graphics and 32 MB video ram.

I am running AmigaOS 4.1 FE Update 2 plus selected bits and pieces from Enhancer Software 2.2

IMHO, it is chaos of the worst kind. No one is in charge and there is no moderation. There is a bored group of people trolling each other and spamming every thread with nonsense.

Very discouraging for members who actually care about polite discussion.

Re: Switch between many amigaos4 machines

@kas1e

Years ago I tried two different KVM switches with my MicroA1 and a Windows PC.

The first KVM switch had PS/2 ports and worked very well with my MicroA1 and an old HP PC with PS/2 ports.

Later we purchased another PC with USB ports.

The second KVM switch had USB ports, but I had limited success using this KVM switch. Seemed to work fine if only one computer was powered on, but problems flipping back and forth between computers if both computers were powered on and active. It got worse when we replaced the keyboard with a Microsoft wireless keyboard.

Anyways, that was a long time ago, and hardware and software have probably improved since then.

Operating each computer with its own keyboard, mouse and monitor.

New AmiDVD works fine for me. I burned a backup of my SYS: partition as a bootable recovery disc.

I use CD-R discs.

@walkero

I have not been following the discussion, so I don't know if you are targeting high end machines or all OS4 systems. When the time comes, I would be happy to try out the new browser on my MicroA1 and provide feedback.

Just for reference, AWeb, IBrowse, NetSurf, Origyn and Odyssey all worked ok on my system. TimberWolf did run, but it hogged all avaiable RAM and crashed on exit.

My system has 256 MB RAM, ATI Radeon 7000 and 32 MB graphics RAM.

Meanwhile, all the best,

Re: AmiDVD
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

@Raziel

In my case, I am using CD-R discs, but yes bootable.

Bootable AmigaOS4 and U-Boot

Both Restart AmigaOS and Restart Computer work ok.

I can boot/restart from this CD and it acts like a "live CD", however, it is much slower than booting directly from my hard drive. I've got quite a few assigns in my user-startup to stuff on my "work" partition and about twenty programs in my AmiDock, it takes a few minutes for all that stuff to populate on the screen.

I goofed up one thing. In my user-startup file there was an assign to a drawer on my AmigaOS4 partition. I have since changed this to SYS: so it will search the SYS: partition (CD when booting off CD) instead of searching the hard drive. Minor change. I also made sure that entries in my AmiDock referenced SYS: instead of AmigaOS4: where appropriate.

I have everything from my SYS: partition on this backup CD (except for AMIStore downloads directory).

In my case, I don't need to backup the advanced radeon drivers because my system is an ancient MicroA1.

Hope this helps.

Re: enhancer 2.2 - update/-grade?

@MichaelMerkel

I think you should contact support@amigakit.com for help.

I had a similar issue. Please forgive the following long story.

In 2019, I purchased Enhancer Software Special Edition V1.5.

Last week, I purchased Enhancer Software Release 2.2 and registered the serial number given to me. However, it registered as Enhancer Software Special Edition V1.5. This was a total surprise because it appeared that I now owned two copies of the same software. I did not attempt to download the new software.

I contacted support@amigakit.com for help and they gave me a new serial number which did work properly and I was able to register Enhancer Software release 2.2 and download the correct software.

My purchases record shows 2 copies of v1.5 and 1 copy of v2.2.

The AmigaKit support was very good and immediate.

They helped me on what was Sunday afternoon in my timezone in Canada (late evening or night in Wales).

Thank you so much AmigaKit.

Sincerely,
redfox

@amigakit

Installed Enhancer Software 2.2 today and burned a backup of my SYS: partition with AmiDVD.

This is my system recovery disc for AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition Update 2 + some Enhancer Software.

And it worked just fine. Thumbs up.

Thanks joerg.
Thanks AmigaKit.

Sincerely,
