OS4 Mini Roundup for August 2026

This is a brief roundup of recent news relating to Amiga OS4. It is not as detailed or well constructed as the Roundups created by AmigaOldskooler which were exceptional contributions to the community. Main sources are Amigans.net, Amigaworld.net, Amiga-News.de, OS4Welt.de, OS4Depot.net and Aminet.net. No AI has been used – blame me for typos and the sources for errors. I won’t be adding images. There may be the occasional hint of editorial/opinion creeping in. Sorry, it’s late here and I’m tired; impartiality may slip.


Hardware News

No OS4 specific news.

However, work on the Mirari board continues apace, with Skateman stating on Discord that “this year many Mirari’s will be on users desks”. It seems that 100 boards have been ordered and once they have been manufactured, tested and sent out, another order will be made. MorphOS and ppc Linux already work well on the Mirari (https://mirari.vitasys.nl/). Hopefully work on Exec-SG is being undertaken, but solid news is lacking. Software News

Mesa for OS4! Roman Kargin (Kas1e) has released an OS4 port of the Mesa 3D Graphics Library. The port is fully hardware-accelerated, supporting OpenGL up to version 4.6 and OpenGL ES up to version 3.2.

George Sokianos (Walkero) continues to work on the rather excellent Kyvos software, which helps the user create a QEMU based setup to emulate powerpc boards on foreign platforms such as Windows, Linux and MacOS. Andrea Palmatè (afxgroup) is another developer who never seems to stop. Recent work includes his USB Audio driver, a Bluetooth stack for OS4 and continued work on clib4 and the Odyssey browser. FliteGUI v2.0 has been released by Kevin Tadd and can be found on OS4Depot. FliteGui is a simple GUI for the flite cli speech program that supports 5 different voices and allows for setting the pitch and speed of each voice. It can also save the spoken text to a .wav file.

Events and News News

Hyperion Entertainment and Amiga Corp have agreed a settlement to their legal travails! This will hopefully mean that far fewer resources are spent on legal battles and far more on actual development. We shall see. In the short term, Hyperion get to continue development of OS3.2 into 3.3, before handing over code and sales rights to Amiga. OS4 was apparently never under discussion or disagreement. Hopefully Hyperion will earn some cash with OS3.2+ sales which they can spend on continuing development of OS4. We can but hope. Amiga Corp have also concluded an agreement with Commodore International Corporation, which mostly seems to let the latter plaster the Amiga Tick and Logo on new products designed to tap into the OS3 nostalgia market
