Status update V-MPlayer:

- Memory leak: Buffers were not being freed, causing RAM usage to grow by 1% every 5-6 seconds until all available memory was consumed.

- GUI window resize bug: The lower part of the window was not redrawn when resizing, which looked broken when shrinking the window.

- V-MPlayer can now also be used standalone: Double-clicking opens a file requester for media files (audio, video, images).

- DigiBooster (DGM) support added: DGM files can now be played back.

- Mouse wheel volume control added: Scrolling the mouse wheel over the video window now adjusts the volume.

- OSD menu added to the VAAPI output along with a minimize button for the Workbench window.

- Hollywood GUI greatly extended: German, English and French language support, plus a new Playlist window with persistent playlist saving.

If you would like to support this project, you will find a donation link in the video description. Please keep in mind that with V-MPlayer, AmigaOS4 now has a truly modern open-source media player offering full hardware-accelerated video playback for the very first time. Any support is greatly appreciated and helps to keep this project alive.

Fantastic work!

Just add in the AREXX support from the current versions of MPlayer and you have the ultimate player for AmigaOS4.

As I've emailed you, I'm certainly willing to help test.

This would allow editing and subtitling up to 4k videos on OS4 using Videoclipper and Simplesub. It would also allow player control from ffmpegGUI. This would certainly provide me motivation to further enhance those programs.

Massive amount of time were surely spend into, looks quite good already. If you doesn't mind, some small things to make it even better:

Maybe ditch hollywod completely, and wrote gui on C/reaction/etc, with AI that not so much matter what you will use, just it will be more system friendly, smaller, and fits better. Or at least maybe skins, to to make it looks "system" kind ?

Anyway, its still quite good already.

Please bear with me a little longer - I will release everything in due course and also run beta tests. It is already in good shape, but I am very motivated right now to make it even better. ARexx is already partially integrated and working, but not yet complete. For your GUI you would need FFmpeg standalone anyway, not V-MPlayer. FFmpeg is currently statically linked. Once V-MPlayer is finished, I will also provide a VAAPI hardware-accelerated version of FFmpeg in version 8.1.

You will hardly believe it, but by now I have been working on this daily for 3 months - and yes, it is already good, but not good enough yet.

As for the GUI, it was simply the easiest way for me to deliver something. Sure, not everyone may like Hollywood as a GUI toolkit, but personally I enjoy it.

Unfortunately it is too late for Reaction since I am in the final phase and would have to start all over again. Most people seem to think that AI can work miracles writing Amiga code and get everything done in a few hours or days. I had hoped for some help with that, but it was not available - so I did it with Hollywood instead.

But you have actually given me an idea: a Skins or Themes tab. I could make it look more similar to Reaction and let the user decide what they prefer - colorful and modern, or closer to the AmigaOS4.1 standard.

Yes, my software uses ffmpeg and the version we have works quite well. My software also uses MPlayer to preview and view the videos through AREXX control. Great to hear it's being implemented. V-Mplayer will be a great addition to support high resolution videos. Just offering my services to beta test. Don't hesitate to contact me when you get to the point where you are ready. Keep up the good work!

Keep up the great work!! Many Thanks!!

Great YT video. Would be good to be able to watch it in full res. ;D

It's good to see you have streaming working! That's one of my
biggest uses of MPlayer. Have you tried/gotten seeking working
in YT streams too?

I'm also interested in seeing the full ARexx command set being
supported. It's an Amiga thing. ;D

Otherwise I hope your new version also fixes some of the bugs on
the current public version:

- prematurely ending streaming videos
- sometimes loosing audio midway through a streaming video
- huge CPU hit, proportional to the video, length before play

I hit your paypal account. I hope it helps pay for lotsa
Pizza and Bier during your hacking!

Again, many thanks for your work on Amiga OS.

Never says never :) I know for myself, when you doing something long enough, and then it's about to do all from scratch again, it can be much faster and easer than one expect.

Definitely not me think that way, as AI is good helper, but not programmer replacement at least for now, but still, with AI help you have much less programming kind issues, and things fixable much faster in many areas. Creating reaction window and placing buttons on it is really not hard by itself, but with AI even if you have no experience in should be doable fast enough.

Thank you for your donation.

Fast-forwarding and rewinding in streams works well. There are no dropouts in streams; you can see in my last video that the stream runs completely through and finishes cleanly. Personally, it was also very important to me that we can stream YT videos again, and even DualPlay works. With 4k video streams, there are occasional minor micro-stutters, which could be due to AmiSSL or a buffer/cache problem. Nevertheless, the videos never lose focus and everything stays perfectly in sync. The CPU usage in the VAAPI output always remains low, 4-10% on X5000 with RX/HD, which is really impressive and a lot of fun.

Since some people place a lot of value on ARexx, I will now do everything I can to implement this. The GUI is already finished—there were a few useful additions, like style buttons so the user can now freely choose how they want the buttons to look, and a few other improvements.

I hope I'll have everything finished by the weekend.

Maijestro, this work is appreciated! My buddy Paul alerted me to your latest demonstration video and this thread, and I am excited to use this very soon on my X5000 with RX580 card. I agree with others: You are a rockstar. Legend!

V-MPlayer with ARexx should now work. It also has a good foundation — I can now adjust the GUI accordingly so the player should be fully controllable. But first, let's clean up the code...

Hello everyone,

I would like to introduce V-MPlayer today, a new media player for AmigaOS 4.1 that I developed in Hollywood. As the playback engine it uses a custom-compiled MPlayer binary that I adapted for AmigaOS 4.1, which includes ARexx support and full VA-API hardware acceleration for video playback.

V-MPlayer plays virtually all common formats, including MP3, FLAC, OGG, AAC, WAV and MOD files for audio, as well as MP4, AVI, MKV and many other video formats. Internet radio streams via HTTP and HTTPS are also supported.
The interface is divided into four areas. The Media tab handles playlist management where you can add files or entire folders. The playlist is saved automatically and restored on the next start. The Radio tab offers a station list with search function, favourites that can be marked with a star button, and a LIVE display of the currently playing station. The Viz tab shows a real-time equalizer with 20 bands that reacts directly to the audio data from MPlayer. In the Settings tab you can change the language and button style.

There are four visualizer modes that can be cycled through by clicking, namely an oscilloscope, a spectrum bar mode, a mirrored spectrum mode and a matrix rain. There is also an OFF mode that shows the filename and a progress bar instead, similar to video playback.

There is also a compact miniplayer in its own small window that provides all the important playback controls and runs even when the main window is minimised. For radio streams it shows LIVE and the station name with a blinking red dot.
Control runs internally via ARexx, so V-MPlayer can also be controlled externally via ARexx scripts, for example to set the volume, pause or load files.

Tested on X5000 with RX580 graphics card using full VA-API hardware acceleration. For QEMU and Pegasos 2 users please change the video output setting from vo=vaapi to vo=comp or vo=sdl in the MPlayer configuration.

V-MPlayer is already in the upload area of OS4Depot and is now waiting for approval by the administration.

I look forward to feedback and testing experiences. Have fun

Well done and congratulations, but...
You’re breaching all GPL licences by making this available in whatever form.
I don’t know who approves the sharing of data on os4depot, but the very act of accepting the uploaded file also breaches them.
What you’ve shared suggests you did it yourself, but that’s not the case.
There’s no reference to the source code on which you built the version. Not even the MPlayer version.
You changed the name of the programme, you didn’t mention the people working on MPlayer for AOS4 (AI doesn’t care what it uses, but you do because you used them)
I only see a link to paypal.me/ – it looks as though you did all this yourself.

Don't worry about it — when you make significant changes you can give the project a new name, but you should still make it clear that it is based on MPlayer, which I have done. The source code and patches are also available.

I replied on OS4Welt and I'll reply here as well.

Thanks Maijestro for your work. If you had help from AI, then thank you too. At least we're trying to move forward, improve, and fill in the gaps on our beloved Amiga X5000!

I also use AI because I don't know how to code, and if I had to learn now, I think it would take me forever.

So far, with the help of AI, I've created a Time Machine backup, an improved copy function, a script to reset desktop icons to their designated positions, an RSS feed with images, feed information, and hourly updates, Ringhio for notifications, and more.

You can do it here but we should follow the forum rules and not post crash logs or anything very large - for that you can do it directly via OS4Depot. So if you notice anything just go ahead, I will look at everything.

Does V-MPlayer work for you? Or are there any problems? There were only a few beta testers which is why I am asking.
