CD/DVD burning tool
Just can't stay away
Just can't stay away

See User information
I've uploaded a simple burning tool to my SFS homepage, AmiDVD.

It doesn't have much features, especially the ISO9660 creation part is very limited, but it can be used for single session data CDs/DVDs, for example for backups or burning existing images, or images created by MakeCD which is free now but AFAIK can't burn DVDs.

Hmm, read the readme file, so when are you going to fix all the known bugs/problems -:) Just joking, have put it in the ever slowly growing folder of DVD type tools. Thank you.

Hi @joerg

I've uploaded a new version of AmiDVD today, the most important change to versions < 1.32 is the fixed U-Boot booting support.

I've been using Frying Pan for a long time with no problems with AOPen 16x CD/DVD/RW - device#2 and LiteOn cD-RW - device#3. I tried AmiDVD for the first time last night and failed. Everything went nicely, but the progress bar died at 8% and drive light went out too. I tried to burn a CD of a SFS partition on my AOPEN. I'm sorry I don't haven't any show why it stopped. Suggestions to what to look for or test!
I think it's v1.34 now!

Edit:

Oh yeh, I used it straight out-of-the-box! I didn't config anything. I bet that my first mistake?

If there was no debug output in the console there is nothing I could do (except for creating a special version for you with more debug output to find out what the problem is), but it's not the only AOpen drive which doesn't work with AmiDVD, there is another one, a CD-R/-RW burner, in the AmiDVD compatibility list which doesn't work with AmiDVD.

The current version is 1.38.

No, there is nothing to configure.

After you have tried with AmiDVD 1.38:
Can you please post the exact type of your AOpen and LiteOn drives and if it works or not.

@mufa and SZAMAN
Will be added, thanks.

@joerg
The other AOpen in the list is mine.
I dont need it at the moment so i could send it to you for some tests if you like.

When I run AmiDVD (v1.37 3.9.07) it opens a console window and then constantly outputs the following:

SCSI command 46 00 00 00 00 00 00 10 00 00 failed
 sense
70 00 05 00 00 00 00 0a 00 00 00 00 20 00 00 00 00 00

The drive is a Samsung CD-R/RW SW-212B.

[edit]
Tried with v1.38 and the same thing still happens...

The drive is too old, it doesn't support the "Get Configuration" command yet. I'll probably add support for such old drives as well, but it may take some time.

I tried to burn a CD with AmiDVD. It looked like it did the burning but that CD didn't work and wasn't readable on any computer. I don't remember any details anymore what I was trying to burn so I can't help here. My drive is Liteon DVD burner.

Hi @ZeroG and Joerg,

After you have tried with AmiDVD 1.38:

I tried AmiDVD again this evening as was successful. It was version 1.38 and this time I used a standard DVD-R. I made a bootable disk of my DH0:OS4 bootup drive. I could bootup on the DVD - nice!

The drive is AOPEN DUW1616/ARR 1020
The DVD-R had no brand name, 8X, 4.7 GB.
I changed the speed to 4X at 5,410 KB/sec, instead of the 8X at 10,820.
My boot partition = 654.3M. The DVD was written in about 17minutes and about 8 minutes. The AOPEN drive is set to UDMA 1 via sii0680ide. ISR that DMA to ATAPI devices is not supported and has only 'bestPIO=0.'
-------------------Unit 2 information------------------------
Flags : $0000011D - present, supports DMA, removable media, ATAPI, interrupts used,
Xfer mode : best pio 12 (PIO 4, 16 MB/s) / best dma 68 (UDMA 4, 66 MB/s) / current 8 (PIO 0, 3 MB/s)
Total blocks : 0
Blocksize : 0
SCSI devtyp : 5
Packet size : 12
Current medium read speed : x 65535 ('65535' stands for max.)
Current medium write speed : x 65535 (idem)
Power mode : 2 / idle (ready for operation)
IO1 / IO2 / BMCR @ : $802410 / $80241A / $802428

I prefer the AmiDVD than Frying Pan.
More simple<>more effective.
The autor of Frying Pan never answer to ny queries
about registering to Frying Pan.
When I tried first I have failed to do it but after
all I get quickly into the process of burning CDS/DVDS.
Conclusion:To burn CDs:MakeCD and to burn CDs/DVDs:

AmiDVD of course.

Good Work!!!

Yes excellent little program.
I was having a bit of trouble backing up my system partition.
The exall problem. I narrowed the problem down to a prefs file which was protected.

"amigainput"

I ticked read/delete/execute/write and i was away.

Burned in roughly 3mins total.

Hi @joerg

I've uploaded a simple burning tool to my SFS homepage, AmiDVD.

I didn't get far in backups this weekend...
From AmiDVD 1.44:
"ExAll failed: file is read protected"
???
DH6: 1,983M 600,461 415,114 59% 0 Read/Write Data3
sii0680ide.device Blocks: 1,015,575 Block sizeL 2,048 FFS2 52.2 DOS7
Status: Read/Write 1,983 MB, 1,172 used, 810 MB free 59% full
Partition Wizard checks OK.
SFS 1.279 gat a bug ???

See message #15 for AOpenX16-DVD/CD R/W.

OK, let's try DH2:X
Yep that failed too -- all activity stopped at 20% "Burn on the fly"...
Reboot ... :/

One of your files doesn't have the "Readable" flag set. This means that the file can't be read from.

To set it use:
protect filename +r

F.e. to set it on all files in the current dir and subdirectories use:
protect #? all +r
