AmigaOS 4.1 demoed during JDLL in Lyon
Just can't stay away
Just can't stay away

Last friday and saturday, the French association Triple A attended the JDLL (Journ?e du Logiciel Libre or Free Software Days) which was Held at the university of la Doua in Lyon-Villeurbanne.

We spent the 2 days showing free softwares running on AmigaOS 4.1 (OWB, TimberWolf, netSurf, MPlayer, FFMpeg, games, etc....).

Many visitors were curious and even ethusiastic.

We had a Sam440Ep 667 Mhz and an AmigaOne G4 1Ghz on our stand.

Eric Bachard (OpenOffice Lite, ex 4Kids) came on friday (with the loaned Sam440) to meet Corto (Point Rider, Sonic, DosBox, ...).

Eric could talk with Corto and the two managed to obtain a ./configure without any error (thanks to Salass0 for his port of Bison). This doesn't mean that we'll have OO Lite tomorrow but this was indeed a great step forward.

Just for remembering, Triple A got in touch with Eric during last year's JDLL and since then, he had received a Sam440 to start knowing our system (as you can see on his WiKi).

Well, it was a great show for us since more and more visitors start to know that AmigaOS is still alive on new machines.

Some picture can be seen on this page.

Don't hesitate to do the same, to demonstrate AmigaOS outside of our community, it's working

Yeah !
It was fun. One week-end after our ?Alchimie week-end, we attended this show that was an opportunity to promote the Amiga.
I had a great work session with Eric that explained me the steps in the port of OpenOffice Light. I will continue to provide him support. There will be difficulties and such a port will raise some weak points but I would like to use them to improve things (missing tools, fixing bugs, ...).
I don't want to say more about that work that is at an early stage even if, that's rights, it was nice to reach the first step.

I'll just bet it was. And, looking from my side of the fence, no small task.

Congrats. Your work and talent is much appreciated.

@All

OOoLight (and not "lite" ) does not replace OOo4kids.
Both will exist and will have the same features. Only one targets children.

OOoLight is not yet released but you can try OOo4kids right now. Check this page.

Also do not forget to contribute either by helping (I, with others, updated the italian translation) or by donating.
The gigantic work that has been done in building this fast OOo alternative is worth donating. No doubt.

Also, talk about it around you. More users means more developers means more time for Eric to work on our port.

It's always great to hear about progress (OO) and any attempt to let more people know about modern Amigas.

Yes and again this time, one guy was so impressed and happy to see AmigaOS that I think he will buy a board soon.

Thanks !
About OpenOffice Light, it is basically the same than OO4kids but without the kid aspect.
Light doesn't mean the major features miss !

Great news, both the demonstration and OO Lite progress!
Could more people be assigned to this great project (most important beside Timberwolf, if I can say?)

Would a bounty help?

No, no bounty, Eric doesn't need one to try porting.

And it's too early to talk about assigning tasks to anyone.

Corto is helping Eric regarding the discovering of the system. For now, let them "work" together.

Nonetheless, you can promote OpenOffice Lite on other systems (if people want to join the OpenOffice Lite team, you can, as said Elwood).
