Hi All,
I am doing all my backups on my external Lacie 2.5" USB HD but at the moment, it complains about blockid and keep throwing requesters which needs hundreds of click to get rid off...

I did a SFScheck and here is the output :

Partition start offset : 0x00000000:2d630000 End offset : 0x0000000a:2c41a000
Surfaces : 1 Blocks/Track : 48
Bytes/Block : 512 Sectors/Block : 1
Total blocks : 83849040
Device interface : NSD (64-bit)

Checking RootBlocks
...okay
Checking AdminSpaceContainers at block 2
Block 31295 is not a valid admin block but it is marked in use in AdminSpaceContainer at 30725
Dump of first 64 bytes of block 31295.

0x0030: 656f732e 636f6d25 76743231 3531340a eos.com%vt21514J
...damaged

so now what should I do ? there are some folders which I can not access anymore and it was a backup...
what filesystem should I use to avoid such problems in the future ? I dont think the error is due to the HD since it is only used for backup purpose and is less than 2 years old !

BTW : sfscheck is showing block 31295 as culprit but the requester is giving another blockid error 31338 ("Expected 0x4E444320 but the block says says it is blockid 0x616DE96E")

* BUMP *

the interesting thing is that when I opened the drawers, the WB failed to display the whole tree whereas dopus4 not only displays the tree but make the valid drawers "viewable"

If you're on OS3 I would recommend PFS-3. By far the best system I ever used, and I used it for a long time. Doesn't work on OS4 though they said, and is 68k only.

I think it must be due to HD error *or* corruption due to USB bug in OS4 *or* just unlucky memory corruption of buffers before they were written back to the HD.

I've never had corruption of SFS on normal (IDE/SATA) HDs, and I think it's the best filingsystem for OS4 at the moment. If you don't mind slow speed, then FFS2 supports repair options, while SFS1 only supports Salvage. I used to love PFS on Classic Amigas, but I switched to SFS & never regretted it.

thx for the info, at least I know which filesystem to use if I need to repair (SFS2).

@ Deniil : it is on AOS4.1+AmigaOne

How do you repair SFS2 partitions?

There is no repair or recovery software for SFS2 (and JXFS).

Unfortunately the OS4.X doesn't come with recovery tools for SFS file system. I suggest you to go on the site of http://strohmayer.org where you can find 68K/PPC SFS recovery tools. Maybe it could help. But be careful. If I remember well it's possible that third party libs will be required.

OS4 *does* come with an SFS recovery tool (Partition Wizard) but it only supports Salvage (basically copying files) of SFS/1.

I am not aware of *any* recovery tools for SFS/2, nor any repair tools for SFS/1, even on OS3.

Also, I have got the 68k tools SFSdefrag v1.2 & SFScheck v1.3 to work, and SFSdefrag even works on SFS/2, but they aren't repair tools.
