Returning...

Hi my name is Doug. Returning back to Amiga after 20+ years for bit of fun. From perusing the various forums this one appears to have active discussions regarding development and that is my area of interest with my new X5000.

Lot to remember but slowly regaining my footing.

Regards

You might want to take a look at the Hyperion forums...all the devs there and a good chance for help with coding

Thanks for links and welcome.

I have already been pestering the Hyperion forums with Linux issues :). The updated version of CMAKE is what caught my eye here.

What I really need and cant find is newer version of GCC. Is 4.2 the latest or does anyone know of anyone working on bringing a more current version 4.8 or greater?

Regards,
Doug

I think this is GCC 5.3 for AmigaOS 4.

In theory there's gcc 6 available too: https://github.com/sba1/adtools

I haven't tried it nor seen any ready-made binaries.

Welcome back Doug,

Along the lines of the development angle, I'd also suggest
you might take a look at the CodeBench dev environment:

http://codebench.co.uk/

No more SAS/C to play with.... But the CodeBench beta is
is even better. ;)

Enjoy the hacking!

I have been enjoying Codebench. Having to work around some issues but overall pretty decent editor.

My biggest challenge is keyboard short-cuts, been on Windows box so long I remap everything to Ctrl instead of Alt. Remapping didn't seem to work but overall it works ok.

Not sure if its being actively worked on.

Thanks for link I appreciate everyone being so helpful.

It's definitely being worked on. What's holding it up is the desire to keep adding features rather than releasing betas :)

FWIW, usually the standard Right- and Left-Amiga keys
should map to the Right-Doze-Menu key (if you have one) and
the Left-Doze key.

If you're still having to hit the Alt qualifier key
instead, you can always open Input prefs and try the
"Swap Alt/Amiga Keys" checkbox at the bottom of the window.

Of course, being an Amiga, you always have the option of
the "Use" button... see how things go and then reopen
prefs and "Save" later if good.

Enjoy!

Thanks @PJS. I try to configure my development environments to be as consistently as possible with keyboard short-cuts. Notepad++ on Windows is my favorite and one of best all purpose editor on any platform.

Thank you too for reply @Ringo, I see most issues of what I experience documented on the Codebench forum. Keymap and hard lockup with Search. Look forward to a 1.0.

Doug
