OS4.1upd3 and ATI Radeon 9200 128MB SAM440ep

See User information
Just for fun I have installed a Radeon 9200 128MB PCI in my SAM440ep.

Rebooted and gone in Workbench but it's in BootVGA Productivity and everything looks pants, 256 colours!

What do I do? Do I need to install a driver?

Thanks

The executable files (like Radeon)¹ are all the same, it's the icon (.info) which makes the difference.

My icon tooltypes for Radeon 9200:

VSYNCMAX=85
HSYNCMIN=31000
HSYNCMAX=70000

Hi Daddy,

As you are told, you must modify the tooltypes.
First you must have installed the radeon driver and not voodoo in devs/Monitors.
Then you select the icon and icon/information in the workbench menu.
At last, you modify then the values and save.

Voilà.

Since a lot of months without an amiga to love, I was lost.
Now I feel happiness again with a Sam Flex 800 .

Well, after the tooltypes are more appropriate in eg. Voodoo, it can be renamed as Radeon.

@TheDaddy

And just for fun, you encountered the same problem that many have had when installing a PCI Graphic card in the Sam440 Mini-ITX : it doesn't work.

There must be a way to make it work but I personnaly wouldn't loose my time doing so since the M9 gives me full satisfaction for the use I have with the Sam440.

This is a fresh installation of OS4.1update3, I didn't put the Voodoo in there!

And I don't have a Radeon driver where do I get it from?

Do I copy the M9 and rename it to Radeon? Will it work?

Reverted back to onboard M9, rebooted and lost all the M9 screenmodes! The only one available is the BootVGA Productivity at 256 colours!

Solved. Put the Radeon M9 back in and Devs/Monitors and all the M9 modes are back...phew!

Now my other big problem is:

The quality is not very good.

There is a ghost effect, for example the borders of the windows are duplicated. Tried the vga adapter, connected to the internal pins and still the same.

Any ideas?

That is why I wanted to try the 9200 to see if I got the same results.

It does it on a CRT monitor and LED TFT.

Some/many VGA cables are just bad. I'd suspect it especially if it's similar in stature to a keyboard cable.

Assuming you are talking about output from the M9 (internal graphics), these two posts may be relevant:

Thanks Chris,

I'll try with a DVI-DVI cable from the onboard M9 to monitor (24 LED).

At the moment the following sucks:

1) VGA cable, VGA to monitor and VGA-DVI adapter to onboard M9 (ghosting, doubling effects)

2) VGA cable, VGA to monitor VGA-DVI adapter to 9200 PCI (ghosting, doubling effects)

The configurations work on the pc.

What frequency is AmigaOS4 using for your screenmodes? e.g. 60Hz?

The higher the frequency, the worse the quality degradation. So if it is using much above 60Hz, then try to get it to use 60Hz instead.

60Hz

Tried a DVI-DVI cable and working.

Running at 1920x1080 32bit on M9 28MB left free.

I won't bother trying with my 9200 128MB...

Dropped it down to 1280x720x32.

Got some extra memory on the M9...which is nice!
