The update brings you another exclusive content: more than 100 new DualPNG icons painted by Ken Lester as well as newest Amijeweled 1.2 special demo for AmiKit. Lots of software has been updated too. As always, get it through the Live Update. [changelog]
Check the screenshots! (click the images)
NOTE: After the update, one more reboot is required to activate the new AfA_OS. Otherwise the icons might be misplaced.
Just downloaded the Ubuntu distro and I am impressed. This is my first linux experience ever. Let's see what I can do with AmiKit under such an environment.
No, it's a Win32 exec file. I had a friend download it via XP and run it and copied it to USBdrive. 1.2.0 is about 250 MB unarched. Got the updates to 1.3.0 the same way. Why do this?
A lot of programs in AmiKit are not necessary because there's the native OS4 versions. But, it has a nice list of the classical programs.
The AmiKit Winuae version won't work in OS4. Why?The JIT problem. The layout of AmiKit get bogged down in icon drawing. The program 'IconBeFast' doesn't improve matters that much. KenLesterJr icons suck; that is, suck a lot time to draw. I found Virgola system icons work better & faster; they're png icons too.

I am posting this using Xubuntu on an Efika Unfortunately the Efika is really too underpowered for the Xubuntu installation.
However I have been playing around with several linux distros (on a Laptop PC) and am particularly impressed with Xandros. I have also tried several Linux Live CD distros also. (Knoppix, DSL, and Elive). They all have good features, particularly the bundled software applications which we Amigan's can only dream of ATM, but I can't help feeling a little constricted and controlled by the Linux OS?
Hmmm... really? It's not supposed to be "WinUAE only". Does the official v1.1 work for you? If yes, try to copy the v1.2 executable into the v1.1 drawer and run it, does it help?
Hi @AmiKit Hmmm... really? It's not supposed to be "WinUAE only". Does the official v1.1 work for you? Huh?? No PC here. I use Euae .0.8.29.wip2
OK, i found the problem -- AJ has the wrong file type; it's set for Drawer ? I changed the file type to Tool and that works! Runs nice in OS4! Occasionally show a Grimreaper on startup, but work with "Ignore DSI error". Nice program!
This is due to slight differences in icon tags between AfA_OS vs. Other Systems. I thought this issue was already fixed...
Afa_OS ? Ah, 'the tail wags the cat' syndrome, huh! I did notice the Drawer file type with CLI tooltype ? I thought this was bad editing or a cliche in my downloads!
I guess!! Quite a few of your icon revisions for AmiKit:Locale/Help/English had to be refiled/filetypes. A lot of docs and HTMLs were Drawer filetypes. Anyway, nice paintbrush work!
@AmiKit
That's a feature I like about you -- the Help files!! Nice docs to answer my Amiga system questions! Thanks...

Paradoxly, I have re-saved them all under new AfA_OS icon library - and they are set right here. It must be something specific under E-UAE. Do you browse the icons through OS4/EUAE or OS4 only?

Try to type "help" in front of any AmigaDOS command in CLI, eg. help echo ;)

If I remember correctly, some .infos are unnecessarely large.
I used some old icon image copier to copy those nice png-icons to keep .infos small (even with all tooltypes) and my A4000/Mediator/Iconbefast relatively fast.
Normally those large .infos would slow it down, don't know why some of those iconsets are so much larger.

It's not icon size so much as the JIT compiler of WinUAE. Euae doesn't have that power. OS3.9 install does run at 020+cpu speeds if I stay away from all the icandy! I put the icandy on the OS4 workbench!
