Is there any way to display icons without the black box around them?

Re: WookieChat 2.12 (27.01.10)

Thread

I am chasing the WookieChat crash/freeze myself now. It IS possible for WookieChat to run without crashing, because it was stable with a clean FE Update 1 install.

I made two changes and the crash is back.

1) Using the Font Prefs program I changed the WB font sizes & color (white) and added dropshadow to the desktop font.

2) Using the GUI Prefs program, I switched to the square window style theme.

These are the ONLY two changes to the out of the box install. Does anyone else (with the crash) use one or both of these settings?

Ken

@broadblues

Nice report!

It was very cool to meet you in person (and everyone else too).

Pictures and video do not do the show justice. There is an amazing amount of positive energy there that just doesn't exist in the forums.

@VooDoo

Install the following updated libs:

http://aminet.net/dev/mui/MCC_NList-0.119.lha
http://aminet.net/dev/mui/MCC_TextEditor-15.45.lha
http://aminet.net/dev/mui/MCC_TheBar-26.15.lha

I don't know that ALL of them are needed, but they were all updated AFTER MUI4 was released and appear to be "MUI4 aware". After updating them, WookieChat seems to have stopped freezing my system.

EDIT: There is also an archive of "contributions" at the MUI4 dev site that appears to contain the same libs. I didn't compare versions, though.

@VooDoo

It's stable on 3.9, but I'm having the same issue now running it on 4.1 Classic. Presumably something has been updated in the time since Jahc stopped development that Wookie doesn't like.

I have a couple of ideas. I'll let you know if I figure anything out.

For the past two days, I've been reading the posts here and at AW and feel like I know Moxee a little better now than I did before. Very sad.

Rest in peace.

@VooDoo

Don't know if this is any help, but all of Jahc's betas before he stopped developing WookieChat are at archive.org (latest was beta 15).

@zzd10h

Try the forum located here: http://murga-linux.com/puppy

That is a very friendly site with helpful people. They can help you sort out the sound problem you're having.

Jan will have to help with the numpad problem -- that's outside my area of expertise.

There are a few other themes in there too, as well as (Ken's) icons, wallpaper, etc.

@zzd10h

1) Most of the time, the sound card is found automatically. However, since that doesn’t seem to be the case for you, trying running “Prefs/Setup/ALSA Sound Wizard” and see if that helps. Sometimes, it’s just a matter of un-ticking the “mute” checkbox or raising the volume sliders. Some settings can also be accessed by right-clicking on the speaker icon in the system tray.

2) Not sure where you would download additional language packs for AmiKit. I looked at the AmiKit site myself and couldn’t find them. Jan?

3) From the “File” menu at the top when you run E-UAE, select “save config”. There is a known issue with E-UAE on Linux that causes slow downs in some situations if more than 32 megs is selected. I never saw it, but during testing, someone else did, so the memory was left at 32 megs. Netsurf wants LOTS of memory!

4) I’m not sitting in front of AmiKit at the moment, so I can’t say exactly how -- but the backdrop is changed via the DOpus environment controls, NOT the normal Amiga backdrop pref.

5) Some of the options for E-UAE can't be set from the GUI. Additional settings are controlled by a file called .uaerc that is located in the root folder (the folder that opens when you double-click the "Home" icon on the desktop). Click the "eye" in the window toolbar to show all icons. Changing the setting called "use_gui" to "no" will make AmiKit start without displaying the gui first -- most the the other settings are self-explanatory. I have never had much luck with full screen, but I am not an expert in E-UAE. Perhaps someone else can help with that.

Thanks for trying AmiPUP!

I had to do a search for V.A.M.P. (sorry, but I've never heard of it until now).

Since you're the developer, you'd know if it was included. Part of what makes AmiKit cool is that nothing is in there without the individual developers' permission.

In many cases, special versions were created specifically for AmiKit!

A1 XE sound help needed ...
Illusionist
Illusionist

I just switched my XE into a new case with front panel audio connectors and I'd like to make the connectors functional if at all possible (my A1 has working on board AC97).

The new case has one female AC97 10 pin connector, while the A1 motherboard has several separated connectors (SPDIF, Headphone Out, Aux Out, CD in).

My understanding is that the A1 is AC97 compatible, so I'm thinking that I just need to connect the right pins on the motherboard to the right pins on the AC97 connector.

Unfortunately, the A1 manual isn't specific about the various pinouts (or even which connector is which).

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The SDL version of E-UAE works with Picasso -- no idea about the Amigfx version.
