Where is AmigaOS 4.1 still available

I was having a look at AmigaOS 4.1 availability, and it seems to be "out-of-stock" everywhere that I looked. Even ACube has no stock of AmigaOS 4.1 on the Sam 460 Only the digital download versions (Pegasos II and classic) are still readily available.

So is AmigaOS 4.1 for other platforms basically not available right now? Or did I miss something?

It is currently available for purchase from the Alinea Computer Shop in Germany:

https://www.amiga-shop.net/Amiga-Softw ... 1-Final-Edition::689.html

Amedia Computer in France:

https://www.amedia-computer.com/en/log ... nal-edition-software.html

GGS-Data in Sweden has it for Sam440 and X1000:

https://www.ggsdata.se/

Amiga on the Lake has for Peg 2:

https://amigaonthelake.com/products/am ... al-edition-pegasos-2.html

Hopefully it'll be available for purchase digitally for all systems, as stock is running out everywhere.

Is it really AmigaOS 4.1 you are looking for of 4.1 FE?

I probably would mail to amiga-shop and Amedia about availability to be sure about stock.

I think anyway that OS4.1FE is near sold out.

Probably Hyperion made them available as downloadable then.

Whatever the latest version is.

I personally don't need to buy the OS, because I'm one of the OS4 developers. But, I'm considering selling one or two of my machines, and the buyer would have to get their own copy of the OS.

The reason I'm considering selling them, is that they're in NZ while I'm in Malaysia. So they're doing nothing but gathering dust. If I sold them, then they'd actually get switched on..

No. That could be years off. Meanwhile, my machines would be gathering even more dust...

It worryingly sounds like you are taking distance from Amiga. I hope it's not the case.

I wonder where the "missing" copies of 4.1FE are. I would assume they produced at least as many copies as AmigaOne hardware has been sold. Or maybe just as many, and the core-developers and beta-testers had to buy a copy too?

Someone must have bought additional spare copies..

Surely the licenses are tied to the machines

That's MorphOS that ties license to specific machine. AmigaOS license is for one copy of the software not tied to specific machine so I think it could be transferred but it's tied to the registration of the serial so once somebody registered it they have it and there's no way (I know of) to transfer it to somebody else. So people who bought machines which are now non-functional may still have a license but they don't use it and cannot sell it. But the license is also for specific AmigaOS versions so if you have an amigaone or pegasos2 license it's only for that version.

yes... I know... so unless Hans assembled his AmigaOne machines himself from spare parts I'd be sure each one has a valid license that will transfer with the machine when he sells it

Also, given his massive contribution to the OS4 scene in general I don't think anyone would begrudge him doing what he needs to do to ensure any machine he sells on has a proper OS on it, if they did, then shame on them.

Of course, the people who 'own' OS4 are not known for being rational people full of good will.

Licences can be transferred of course, it's required by EU laws.
In case of AmigaOS 4.x I think the seller has to delete his registration on the Hyperion web site first, making the serial number available again for re-registration by the buyer.

AmigaOS 4.x developers, and maybe beta testers as well (not sure), didn't have to buy AmigaOS 4.x licences but had access to the beta server with all versions and updates for free.
For example I never had an AmigaOS 4.x licence for my A4000, AmigaOne XE nor Sam440ep machines, I only have one for my X5000 which I got after quitting the OS4 team.

but those two machines did not ship with OS4 licenses as it did not exist when they shipped, correct?

In case of the A4000/CSPPC and AmigaOne XE there were no public versions yet, but IIRC when I got the Sam440ep there were AmigaOS 4.x releases for it already. But still was shipped to me without an AmigaOS 4x.x licence for it as I didn't need it.
No difference for me, but would be a big problem if I'd try to sell it: The buyer of my Sam440ep would additionally have to buy the AmigaOS 4.x licence for it.
AFAIK only the X1000, X5000 and A1222+ can't be bought without included AmigaOS 4.x (+ Enhancer Software) licence, for all older systems the AmigaOS 4.x licence was a separate buy and you could buy it without AmigaOS as well.
Maybe not communally known, but there was an EyeTech "LinuxOne" as well, hardware identical to the "AmigaOne XE" (AKA MAI Teron PX), the only difference was the U-Boot version which can't boot AmigaOS (in an EEPROM, i.e. easily replaceable by the AmigaOne XE version).
Similar to the bPlan/Thendic/Genesi "ODW", a Linux-only version of the Pegasos2.
In both cases they didn't include AmigaOS/MorphOS licences, and it was not easy to add.

I have now contacted several shops and asked about the availability. I will post their responses here when I receive them.
