Thanks for reply,

One other question have you tried qemu on pi5 hardware, and will this app be ported to Linux / arm?

I saw this video
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7vDfZ4DR ... WVtdSBhbWlnYW9zNCBwaTU%3D

And was surprised by the performance, not amazing, but better than expected. Plus likly to be even better on something like orange pi5 ultra or upcoming orange pi6.

Unfortunately, I do not own RaspberryPi5 system to try. But I have a Pi400 and the binary I created for it didn't work. But I didn't put great effort on figuring out why because, based on my experience, the Pi400 ppc emulation is not that good.

I haven't seen that video before, and it appears that Pi 5 does a good job. I will give it a try again and see if I can make something out of it.

A mac app that wraps Qemu and looks... exactly like Kyvos. But doesn't ship with an OS4 config (and doesn't currently seem to let you make one). Has MorphOS though. I think.

https://getutm.app/ It's a version of QEMU for Apple devices so if you don't run iOS or macOS on your host you're probably not interested. But it's open source so one could send them patches and they may include it. Although it would be difficult for them if they can't test it. Maybe they could test with PPC Linux guest or MorphOS demo or AROS but AmigaOS runs best on amigaone which does not run any other Amiga like OS. So if you send patches you may need to also provide an alternative OS to test with that's available. By default UTM configures machines with virtio and spice display which are supported by other guests but not by AmigaOS. If it can run MacOS 9 guest maybe you can try that config.

Thank you for letting me know about UTM. I have never used it, that's why I didn't know it.

Quote:
whats the difference between this and UTM?

The main differences I see between Kyvos and UTM (never used it) are mainly two:
1. Kyvos runs on different systems (Linux, macOS and Linux), providing the same experience
2. Kyvos is made with a focus to the Amiga community, and the Amiga flavoured operating systems. I do not plan to support emulation of every OS out there, so I am not building an alternative tool of UTM.

There might be a lot more differences, and I bet that UTM is more advanced than Kyvos.

Quote:
Surely it would be easier to publish presets for UTM than make a whole separate app

I started developing Kyvos because I needed a simple tool that focuses on Amiga systems and run on my Linux machines. Also, it was a good project for me to learn how to code with Hollywood. I wrote a post about it at https://ko-fi.com/post/Kyvos-is-publicly-released-O5O41IEMRO.

At the end, I decided to make it more user-friendly and share it with everyone. If anyone finds it useful, that will be great. I also created a 100-page manual for those who need some guidance and shared that also with everyone. And all of these are free to download and use.

FWIW I've tried to get UTM to produce something that could boot OS4 in the past and couldn't get anywhere near a working config. It made far too many assumptions and inserted far too many options that were only useful for Windows / Linux type stuff even when going in to the advanced settings and trying to take complete control.

That said, I've not used it for some time now as I went back to VMWare Fusion. There was a reason for that and I have a suspicion it was USB related but honestly, I don't remember right now. (I'm not suggesting VMWare fusion can do PPC, it can't, but I had UTM on my Mac as my main means of running a Windows and Linux VM).

Thanks for the tool.

This is reported in the .PDF guide:

Virtio-GPU is a virtual graphics driver that enhances graphics performance in virtual machines
using the Qemu emulator. It allows the guest operating system to utilize enhanced graphics by
interfacing more directly with the host's hardware. This provides smoother visuals and better
rendering, making the virtual experience closer to using a physical machine.
For AmigaOS 4, a driver developed by Hans de Ruiter for A-Eon is available. Kyvos can set up
VirtioGPU for you, provided that you have put the AmigaOS VirtioGPU driver in the same folder
as the operating system ISO. The file must be renamed to VirtioGPU.lha for Kyvos to recognize
and use it. So, store the VirtioGPU.lha in the same folder with the ISO images and the OS
updates and create your VM using Kyvos. The produced kickstart.zip file will include the Virtio-
GPU drivers.
Note: This file should be available before creating the VM with Kyvos; otherwise, it will
need to be added manually. Alternatively, generate a similar VM and copy the new
kickstart.zip file into the appropriate folder for updating.
To enable Virtio-GPU, select it in the Display tab of the system configuration. Choose virtio-
gpu in the Gfx device field and check the Show cursor checkbox, as this is necessary to view
the mouse pointer.
Activating Virtio-GPU is recommended after installing AmigaOS 4.1 FE, as additional software
installation enhances the experience. For improved mouse handling, consider installing the USB
HID driver for touchscreen monitors from OS4Depot. In Kyvos, under the Hardware tab, enable
the USB tablet checkbox and click on the Save changes button.

Where can you buy Virtio-GPU on A-EON ?

will it be available in Enhancer Software 2.3 ?

The beta 0.5 is not present on AmiStore

@All
Furthermore, since there are those who have version 2.2, I will have the free update to 2.3 or you will have to buy it separately.

I don't think it's available.
How do I get a WIP version ?
https://www.amiga-news.de/en/news/AN-2023-10-00031-EN.html

Virtio GPU driver current status:

Fully working framebuffer driver, with 8, 16, and 32-bit modes
Hardware accelerated mouse pointer
DDC/EDID working, so automatically gets available screen-modes
High resolution
Fast - no need to emulate hardware registers
Virtio GPU has 3D and video decoding hardware acceleration - WIP
Version 0.5 has just been released
Very usable as-is

I can't find it

Thank you

I imagine there's no WIP version of Virtio-GPU.

But it's only for a select few, and given to a select few

Generally, WIP indicates development support, such as for an emulator or a tool like Ryzen Master Utility, and a thousand other things.
Like MODs for GTA, everything else is.

But accessible to those who support it.

In this case, it doesn't seem WIP to me

Hurray for honesty

Clearly, it could be called a work in progress in this case.
But why mention it

virtio-gpu is not currently available anywhere to buy it. These questions should be answered by amigakit, I guess. I have access to it because I am among the beta testers of it.

Thanks for the reply,
all that's left to do is wait for the Virtio-GPU driver, which I'll definitely buy.
I'm sorry I can't try it because I've been emulating AmigaOS for years.

And I'll certainly buy it when it comes out with Enhancer Software 2.3.

@AmigaKit

AmigaKit should also take this into account for its users.

So, "AmigaKit," why don't you let me try the beta version of Virtio-GPU ?
Since I bought two GPUs to emulate with Qemu

Since I've been using Qemu for years.

And since I've been buying AmigaOS software for years even without having real hardware. (Precisely)

Thanks

Why don't you open the Enhancer Software 2.3 presale ?
And for those who pre-order it, give away the Virtio-GPU beta.

Advertising is the soul of commerce.

I agree.
But the important thing would be to pay for the stuff since it works.
No one wants it for free.
As long as it doesn't cost as much as a 4K TV.

Then pre-ordering Enhancer Software 2.3 isn't a bad idea
With the virtio-gpu driver already ready to download.
So you can start using it.

But we're all getting old. I'm 58 now, and sometimes I don't even feel like doing things anymore.
Besides the fact that I've also been ill for a year and a half now.
My fault, too many cigarettes. I haven't smoked for a year and a half now.

Diagnosis:
Pulmonary Emphysema. I can't even fly anymore.
I don't care. My wife died three years ago. I can't live well anymore. The world is dead for me.
And I smoked cigarettes excessively after her death.

But I've had a good life, and I'm satisfied with that.
I've lived every moment with my wife. I'd do it all over again.
I left all my work, projects, and everything else behind.
But I've lived every moment with my wife, and that was the most important thing.

I bet that AmigaKit will make the driver available as soon as it is ready for public access. At least, from my side, what I could do was to make Kyvos able to use it, if it is available, and make its usage as weasy as possible.

Yes, I've tried it with both Windows and Linux, and it works very well.
The only thing I don't understand is does qcow2 have a file size limit, for example, only 1024 (hdd Kyvos) ?
Why does it seem unable to create larger files, or am I doing something wrong ?

EDIT SOLVED:
ok solved with sfs/02

The Kyvos app creates every boot hard disk at a specific size. For AmigaOS 4 there is no need for a bigger HD than 1GB. Then you can create more hard disks and mount them to the VM, with sizes set by yourself. You can mount up to three hard disks. Please, consult the manual on how to do that.
