SOLVED !!!-can't load mixer images & wb backdrop when booting OS4.1u2 ??
Home away from home
Home away from home

See User information
out of the blue this evening I get the following mixer output box:

"Can't load picture Images/BgText.
Perhaps you forgot to specify the IMAGEPATH tooltype or argument?
Error reading BgText image
Can't load picture Images/MuteOff.
Perhaps you forgot to specify the IMAGEPATH tooltype or argument?"

I also get the requester saying "can't load Mute Images" ??

I didn't delete anything the last time I booted up normally?? any idea what caused this and how to fix it...

Check your Mixer directory, it should have a images directory in there.
If not mixer checks for the location of the Images using the imagepath tooltype.

It would appear you have moved/deleted either the image dir, or the relevant images within it.

Hope that helps?

Yes, I'm sure you got it. This happens, for example, when people drag the mixer app into WBStartup, without the images directory also. Probably the easiest solution is to set the IMAGEPATH tooltype in the mixer to point to the image dir, so then no matter where you move the exe the images are found.

Check the following folders:
Sys:Classes/Datatypes/
Sys:Devs/DataTypes/

Also check that your S:Startup-Sequence contains the following line (or something similar) :
C:AddDataTypes REFRESH QUIET

Several things can cause the "unknown datatype" message.

1st, if you have the mpega.datatype installed, I suggest you ditch it, as it was known to confuse .mpg and .jpg formats, which further confused Multiview, iirc.

You have a "path" problem, you either moved a directory or you re-named something. SnoopDOS has problems on os4, but works well enough that it might give you a hint.

Can you explain what you mean by the above?

Also, when you said you could not load a .jpg, did you mean one particular .jpg, or does multiview fail loading all .jpg files that previously loaded?

If it's just a few files, you could have a .jpg with a header that is not recognized. This happens all the time when new formats/headers appear in the wild.

Also, you could still have a datatype collision, which is why I mentioned the mpega.datatype. It's somewhat complicated. Part of it has to do with correct recognition of the filetype in order to have multiview process it correctly and part has to do with priority, according to one of the YAM authors.
That particular datatype has caused headaches in the past with .wav, .bmp, .png, and other file types. Thomas uploaded a newer version to OS4depot in hopes of curing the ills.
I sure hope any new datatypes under development take any possible datatype collision into consideration during the design phase.

Snoopy was designed for coders. I have never found the right settings to trace path loading. It also scrolls endlessly with the CPUTemp docky running. SnoopDOS does have its problems on os4, but its helped me track down startup problems more then Snoopy ever has.

I should look for the snoopy setting to stop CPUTenp docky from being seen, but all the options are greek to users.

Edit: Ok, played with the Snoopy options & cleared up a lot of problems with option settings & I'll fine tune it some more over time.

I think this is what sundown is asking you to try:

(1)Start snoopdos
(2)A window should open on screen
(3)Start multiview
(4)Attempt to load a .jpg file
(5)Check to see if any errors are reported in the window

or

(1)Start Snoopy
(2)A window should open on screen
(3)Start multiview
(4)Attempt to load a .jpg file
Under the "output" menu at top, you can select "save list to file" and it allows you to click on "specify" to choose where to save this list.

Then you can post it here.

Ok, check Sys:Classes/DataTypes & check that picture.datatype is there & is at version 53.3 for os4.1.2.

We have no idea what your catweasel s/w installed, maybe it over-wrote some datatype files?

It was part of os4.1 update 1. Your snoopy log points to a datatype problem with the "fails" at the end. You should also check that your Libs:datatype.library is v53.4, also part of update 1.
