Re: Should I expect better video playback performance?

@mr2

I can't check right now, but as far as I remember, the last time I paid something for the Enhancer Package was at least one year ago.

One year!

And I can't remember the price to exceed 30,- EUR.

I can imagine adapting the software to work on an X1000 takes some time and effort too.

I don't think being fat is particularly healthy, but I have nothing agains contributing to Hans's food on the table for another year. And nor Hans nor other involved people give me the impression to be individuals that do this "just for a quick buck".

edit: But I am interested to know Amigakits plans regarding the pricing of the update too, so I will know in advance if I have cancel my planned Netflix subscription this year too (I surely won't die because of it!).

@amigakit

Thank You very much for the update. Your latest increase of communication with the community is very positive IMHO. Looking forward to install the update when it's released.

Just a side question, would there be any advantage in having U-Boot instead of CFE on the X1000?

I see..

In my opinion it would be a nice feature.

I wonder what others think about it..

So the OS should offer this.

Re: Enhancer Software v2.0 Released

I have wirtten down some notes about Enhancer 2.0:

- Archiver: if I enter a path in the "Destination" string gadget, it does not create a new drawer automatically, as does the default system utility Unarc. it is very convenient to have the option for an automatically created drawer. (And while at it, please add the option to create a drawer with/without icon)
- Archiver: does not offer the option to assign a default destination dir where the archive should be unarchived to. e.g. UnArc tooltypes (DESTINATION=)
- Archiver: A tooltypes option for Archiver to open at certain coordinates and Window Size would be very handy (See UnArc tooltypes)
- Archiver does not change to the actual Tab when drag&dropping an archive to its AppWindow. IMHO there should be at least an option in the preferences to change focus to the new Tab.
- Archiver Tabs appear to be a kind of unuseful, when it is unarchiving a big archive, the GUI is blocked. It is not possible to change to another TAB and continue working.
- Archiver: IMHO the keyboard shortcuts are a little unconventional; e.g. "l" for "select all"? Why does it not stay close to system style and use "a"?
- Archiver: IMHO, the GUI needs an overhaul. The "Open" button is mispositioned.
- Archiver: in the Compress window: - does not show a list with the files which are to be compressed.
- - the Destination and File-name string gadgets are not editable.

- InfoWB: Please add the option "CREATEICON=ASK" either in tooltypes or as a setting. Sometimes I'd just like to add a comment to a file, and the extra step to reopen the InfoWB window and delete the info is cumbersome.
- infoWB: Actually all of the Tooltypes offered in RAWBInfo are usefull, size of window, posistion of the window, etc..
- InfoWB: The default tools for "default tool" can not be changed or added.
- InfoWB: The option to "SHIFT" click to toggle a tooltype on or off is dearly missed.
- infoWB: There is a significant lag between requesting the "info" window and the window acutally opening. It feels soo.. windowsy.

- Most of the new commands in C do not have an proper documentation for the Keywords they use.

- Utilities/Clock: either a bug in the LOCALE variable or in Clock, my Locale is set to Austria the date format is "YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM.SS" but "Clock" is stubbornly showing "HH:MM:SS Weekday, DD. Month YYYY"
- The documentation for Utilities/Clock does not explain the possible Tooltypes and its options.

- Exchanger: Enhancement request: show the keyboard shortcut (hotkey) for the selected commodity in the "information box" e.g. Name: ClipViewer Description: Cliboard History manager State: Enabled Hotkey: "ctr alt x"

I agree with this. Somewhat between two weeks or a monthly report would be more than sufficient.

@amigakit
I noticed the "Info window" displaying the agreement during the installation of the EnhancerCore, allows text to be selected (I was trying to select the e-mail address to send a report), but it can not be copied: "RAmiga-C" activates the "Cancel" button below the text area.

This might very well be an issue with ReAction as a whole, (RAWBInfo is another example) but Shortcut keypresses should be filtered from the such combined with a meta key (at least RAmiga and LAmiga). System-wide. At the moment, I can not think of an exception where it would make sense not to.

@AmigaKit

X-Dock 2.42 does not allow to change the screenmode, I alway get a "Intuition is attempting to reset the Workbench screen. Please close all windows, except drawers" notification.

AmiDock behaves better and automatically quits and reopens after the screen mode change.

The last time I used ADPro I did so from RunInUAE because I had the same issue.

Depending on what you want to do, there is a small tool AmiTransformator on Alineas Website http://www.alinea-computer.de/produkte.php?show=Freeware

and PicShow from Thomas Rapp can do some tricks to pictures too.

But why are they abandoned? They had not been released before as far as I am aware of.

Are you working on a new Iconset?

You are right, thanks for hint! :)

I exclusively used 32bit screens until recently, I switched to 16bit because I was tired of the monitors switching times when using AmiCygnix..

@broadblues
@AmigaKit

Minor issue:

When set to the "digital" mode, the clock v53.29 does not reflect the Locale setting for the date, even if the option "Settings/Date and time format/locale" is selected.

For testing purposes I have set my country to "Austria" the date format in Workbench is similar to the ISO 8601 Date format: "2020-04-10" but Clock displays it as "Friday, 10. April 2020"

X-Dock shows a little graphics glitch here on X1000. It only appears when selecting "rounded corners" in the X-Dock preferences.

Then again, HP did fix and update A LOT compared to X1000/CFE/UBoot/you-name-it.

See.. this means HP hardware is crap, they had to fix A LOT of things, whilst the X1000 firmware only has a few additional features:
- it prevents you to buy those cheep china keyboards (I apologise for riding the stereotype, dear Chinese Amiga friends!!)
- it prevents you to buy useless 2Gib of RAM (unless you use Linux maybe)
- it prevents you to buy a KVM so you will renounce up front to buy another expensive computer. One computer per person should suffice in this day and age. We can say X1000 is a Green Computer, it has environmentally friendly intentions.®by Great-Ah Bigfishmountn
- it prevents you to accidentally boot from a USB key when inserted at boot time.
- it prevents you to accidentally keep the key pressed... well no, it prevents key repetition when in the CFE "shell", and then wonder why on earth 50 "v" appear on the screen!
- it also prevents you to accidentally go to the first position of a line with the cursor by just one keypress when editing a command.
- It breaks the monotony of You Boot and introduces a much friendlier acronym for firmware!

You see, there are so many advantages and deep thoughts behind every feature. You might not recognise it, but all these features are early Christmas presents! :) :abitevil

But if you look at the Amiga market, 10 years means hardware finally becomes usable (from the software side)...well, partly, and not crash-prone, and probably not even fast...

here we go again! Complaints! Did I not just tell you these are all features!!!
