AmiGen ready for alpha testing
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

See User information
With the transition from a sequential to relative file and the addition of a GUI to AmiGen, it is now at the point for an alpha release and test. If anyone would like to help me with this, please contact me with a PM here.

AmiGen is a genealogical database for version 4 of AmigaOS.

You could try realvaliant@yahoo.com but I'm not sure that it's still active anymore.

I haven't run anything for genealogy work on my Ami since the Norgen days back when I had my 1000.

email sent by PM.

I'm anxious to see if it will import data from my wife's current shareware PC genealogy program.

What program does your wife use? Currently AmiGen doesn't import any data yet from other programs, so I want to hear from users what formats they'd like or need. I do have plans to include the gedcom and paf formats in the future.

THe program is named "Legacy." She remembers that it uses gedcom for sure. She doesn't remember what other formats it might use.

Hey, it's good to see someone is working on genealogy software for Amiga. That's one project I was considering for myself, right after the wholly unrealistic porting of TortoiseSVN.

I used Scion Genealogist 5 for a while, when I was really into genealogy. It can import/export GEDCOM via Scion2GEDCOM.rexx and GEDCOM2Scion.rexx, but I never actually tried to import the files into other software to verify that it actually worked.

I don't think I can afford the time to help test your software at the moment, but good luck with the project!

Ok, I've added a very primitive Export Gedcom function to AmiGen. The Import Gedcom is going to be a litte more difficult to write. In order to do so and also improve the Export function some example gedcom files would be very useful. If you happen to know where I might find some that would be very helpful. I haven't look at Legacy yet to see if there are any additional formats to implement.

Thanks. However you'll probably want to keep your project option open. I'm writing this in a compiled BASIC so it doesn't take full advantage of the system.
