I've been using AmiCygnix for some years, mainly for Usenet, but I recently trashed my OS4 hard drive with no recent backups, and I'm slowly putting OS4.1FE and the old user partitions back together on my X1000.
I just reinstalled AmiCygnix, Base and Tools, but when I boot it I find no e-mail program at all! What am I doing wrong this time?
It may be a moot point. I haven't been able to reconnect YAM with my ISP, so I'll probably have the same trouble with AmiCygnix (in fact I have found that the browser does not connect), but just in case I overcome that major difficulty...

@kilaueabart
I use no email program in AmiCygnix, so am not knowledgeable in the subject.
Which E-Mail client did you install, Sylpheed or Claws-mail or something else?

@Thematic Sylpheed, but if you hadn't given the name as an option, my current state of dementia wouldn't have come up with the name.
I'll see what I can find out about Amicygnix and Sylpheed.

@cygnusEd Know it's a bit OT, but are you working on a fix for the wrong colours on amicygnix screen? I can run it fine in window mode. But it's dead slow.

@cygnusEd Yes, thank you. Thematic's hint led me there, and I have been able to revive my old news groups. Well, "revive" may be the wrong word; Usenet has been pretty moribund for the last 15 or 20 years.

@Antique
Yes I'm working on it, but I was not able to fix it completely until now. I can send you a beta version if you like. Only a few gfx is still wrong.
You said, that the picasso96wb driver is slow on your system. Which hardware do you use? On my SAM460 this driver is one of the fastest.
@kilaueabart
Yes - true. The World Wide Web kills it all.

@walkero Are there new features in the OS to be used to get more performance? I thought the improvements are inclusive.

@walkero
There will be only bugfixes in the next release, sorry. There are many things I would like to implement, but I don't have the time for it. And unfortunately the colour problem is very hard to solve..
But several updates/bugfixes of these packages are near completion: * Abiword (bugfix) * Gnumeric (bugfix) * EasyTAG 2.1.8 (update) * Homebank 4.6.3 (update) * ufraw 0.22 (update)
Hope I will find some time to complete this soon.

@cygnusEd, since you are working on AmiCygnix it seems that gimp it's not compiled with libexif enabled, I would like to know if it's possible to have a version with libexif, it can be very useful for the lens correction tool

@pvanni Exif is enabled in port, but you have to use the original loaders to benefit from this. The internal loaders do not support this. So if you want to handle exif data of a jpeg file for example, you must install the "file-jpeg" plug-in, which comes with the first loader package available on os4-depot. Unfortunately this will slowdown loading and saving jpeg files .

@cygnusEd thanks for the tip, it's there a way to switch between loaders?

@pvanni
The only way to switch between the loaders is to install and remove them. Of course you have to relaunch gimp afterwards.

@mufa +1, I've been getting pink and light blue hues since I installed FE, good thing is all programs still work despite the colours

@ mufa + 328gts
Because of time reaseons there is no progress since my last post above. The fix is still uncomplete, but if you send me a mail address, I can send you the current display libraries. It is good enough for working with AmiCygnix, but there are some minor gfx problems left.
BTW: The problem is not FE, it's because newer gfx cards do only support low endian gfx data.
I know, I should publish this patch on os4-depot. Hope I will find some time next week.
