Grim and Guru
Just popping in
Just popping in

@OS4 developpers

Some time ago I got a guru in my sam. I say a real guru the one on top of the screen with the red box. This gave me a strange emotion at the end a good remember.
Now we have Grim, definitely a better tool, but it has not this feeling.
I would ask the developers to do a simple modification on the grim top of the window. Pleas add a black line with written Guru Meditation. This is more Amiga

thanks

Ewww, no thank you

1) I never felt the Guru Meditation "fit" into the Amiga feel.
While it was something people tend to remember most when thinking back to the Amiga, i don't
I always thought the Guru was dragged on from WB 1.0 times and never changed.

I like the Grim much better, at least it silently sneaks into your overall WB experience and don't bother you with flashing and stuff

2) I wouldn't want to draw developers away from really important tasks, the Grim works, so leave it be (maybe some updates to the Grim can be done, so that - once memory protection is in place - crashed programs can be dealt with without taking down the whole system)

That's of course imho

I sincerely hope our OS developers never lose their precious time re-introducing a gimmicky feature that merely brings back memories, instead of actually providing some useful functionality.

We still have the similar recoverable alerts, which can't be clicked past with a USB mouse :(

You misunderstand my request. I do not propose to resurrect old features or change grim behaviour, I simply proposed to print a title in the grim window or change the window name to have a different feeling. For the developers this is a 1 minute task, then can continue with the useful things.

True, all that recoverable alerts wasn't cliccable at the time (with an USB mouse atleast), i know this because at the time i have an application with such error, so i open a public thread asking our devs to make a workaround for, aka to skip such errors also with an USB mouse, i think they even open a new ticket in bugtracker..

But in one of the latest update (Update 5 maybe) i noted that they just removed such graphical alerts altogheter to redirect them into a classic GR instead

Yep i remember it, but never used aniway

Just for curiosity i found now this little app:
http://os4depot.net/index.php?functio ... e=utility/shell/crash.lha

It would be ideal to verify if alerts was really removed or not, infact according to the readme you can force the system to crash in both method

Quote:
R=REAPER/S Causes the Grim Reaper requester to appear
G=GURU/S Causes a Guru (blinking rectangular box) to appear

Well would be Interesting to test !

Think that only works on OS4 apps, as did not patch the JMP table, hemm.. did not think anyone was using that anymore.

Guru Meditation is pretty meaningless to me, since my first Amiga had KS 3.0.
