It's a bit unfair to blame ddni for the rage quit of a developer who's got upset a little discussion on where some support posts should go. That may seem a bit harsh on Spectre who I'm sure has done a lot of hard work but I get a bit fed up of seeing people rage quit all the time and no one here has been insulting him or his work, just questioning where the support posts should go.

Am I understanding this correctly?

It seems like someone made a perfectly reasonable point about the fact that the AmigaOS forums had a lot of Linux posts in and wanted a way to filter them out, and that the result of this was that the person doing the Linux port then deleted all posts and Linux downloads, and stopped development of Linux?

That doesn't make any sense at all to me. Everyone goes without Linux just because one person got a little tired of Linux posts in one particular Amiga forum? Seriously?

Ok, it is unfair. Still outcome is pretty clear from start, if conversation is start way, that this is not welcome in here or there...

Userbase is shrinking anyway, so no extra help is needed :)

Maybe its my language and some kind of misunderstanding, Im not native english-speaker.

Generally problem is not too much linux conversation, problem is that there is not enought Amiga related conversation. Forums are pretty much quiet these days.

But news are few and so on. And we can start conversation, how Hyperion would save part of situation giving some report about kernel developing, new scheduler or/and something about OS state in general. Myself I would be more than interested, is new multitasking still preempetitive or based on threading and so on.

Still, quietness for obvious reasons.

@ddni

Sorry, my reaction was too fast and harsh. Im really sorry.

Probably it was just the last drop since this seems to be a recurring topic of discussion. At least those whining about Linux postings should be happy now since they got exactly what they wanted.

Also quoting from the support forum thread:

Guys I am on a forced vacation from Sam460ex stuff as My Sam460ex was damaged this morning.

So his Sam460ex broke and with all the complaining maybe he couldn't be bothered to get it fixed or order a new one (?).

I was quite taken aback by your first comment, but appreciate your apology.
There was never any intent to question the hard work or validity of spectres linux work. I made this point numerous times in this thread.

That he has quit disappoints me. If I caused that then I am extremely sorry. However I am incredulous that a few comments about the location of Linux posts on an Amiga support forum would be the tipping point for him to quit.

Ah, it appears to be hardware failure then not a simple rage quit so I must apologise for that aspect of my comment above.

@xeno74

Could you please post the whole story when relaying bad news?
He hasn't quit because of this thread, even if this thread may not help his motivation after losing his machine.

People are pretty sensitive. What we need is good news, which fire up forums a little. Positive things leads to positive things... an so on that kind of PR crap ;)

Sorry, but it's true. He has quit the Linux support because of this thread. It's over. I have decided to exit the Linux threads in this forum.

I don't see a problem here really. If you don't like certain threads, just don't read them. Problem solved. Amiga people are good at complaining, not so good at positive feedback.

This thread has become something that I never intended.
To be clear, all I posted about is that I don't like the official AmigaOS SUPPORT forum being used for Linux news FULLSTOP.

I value Linux, I have no gripe with it on NG hardware. I appreciate the work of Linux guys who work on Amiga HW. I read Linux threads on other DISCUSSION based Amiga Fora.

I rarely ever grumble. I am very very positive about AmigaOS and frequently praise the developers of programs that I use.

If people want to blame me for the demise of Linux on NG Amiga hardware then so be it. I would ask that if someone feels compelled to name me in some forum post, that they consider contacting me directly for a proper discussion.

I don't understand where all this has blown up from, I really don't. All I see is someone asking that the official AmigaOS support forum should concentrate on AmigaOS, and it wasn't phrased as a demand or as an ultimatum, or even a real complaint. It came across to me as just a gripe about something which was a minor irritation. Heck, he even stated in the same post how much he respected and admired the Linux authors!

I just don't get it....

@Site Manager,

Obviously we need a new forum category "Linux on Amiga". This will help keep things in place for all concerned.

Thanks,

Agreed, that's why I can't understand why it was even raised as an issue in the first place. Now look at the result. I reckon this is the last straw for me, this community used to be helpful and inclusive. I don't blame Spectre for his decision to remove the Linux stuff and move on.

I have been toying with buying an X1000 or Cyrus, I am not comfortable committing so much money with so little news regarding AmigaOS progress, the Linux angle was the only thing keeping me interested but with this my decision is clear. My SAM 460 will be my last Amiga machine.

Once again this community shoots itself in the foot.

I have X1000 and have been on forum. Beside Linux X1000 team (which now toys SAM Linux development) all the work is done by beta testers and external developers.

Hyperion factualy DOES NOT exist in practice, with Steven just keeping promises and censoring the threads.

Now, I had to BEG Hans to regain account I have EVERY RIGHT to because I have changed mail address, and I have posted 15 days ago and stil wait for post approval.

Great support fora, isn`t it?

First off, IT IS NOT ONLY AmigaOS support forums, it's Hyperion support forums. Second, you are NOT a person who gets to decide what is allowed to post there FULL STOP.

Shut the fuck up, whatever predicament you're in is entierly by your own making. It's time for you to snap out of your tantrum.

@acefnq

The only problem here is that peopel can't read what other people write and get all worked up due to their own inability to read properly. And IF anyone rage quits due to the mild language in the first post in this thread then they should really grow some back bone. Try getting a proper scalding by Linus Torvald for some minor transgression and then come back here and compare which is worse. If the first post here is too much for someone then that someone is not going to make it in the real world.

@all

Nothing more can come out of this thread so it's now closed.
