PersonalPaint and Amiga OS 4.1u4
Just can't stay away

I have installed PPaint of Cloanto in my Amiga1200 Classic System with AOS 4.1u4. Everything is fine, it works, no guru or gr, just a minor problem with high resolutions.. I have an Amiga 1200 with 256MbRam + Radeon 9250 with 128 MbVram and everytime i try to set up PPaint with a 1920x1080 resolution it tells me: "not enough free memory". My Max Resolution is 1280x720.. Any Hints?

When i run PPaint I have 120 Mb of FreeRam and 90/100 Mb of free Vram.

I don't know, but I just set a screen of 1280x1024 with an image of 1920x1080 (autoscroll) and that worked.

That was with a radeon 9250

Hmm, I just startet PPaint with a 1600x900-8Bit screen mode (Radeon 9250) and it just worked out of the box. But your resolution is higher, maybe there's really a problem with modes bigger than mine - or is it some kind of classic-only problem?

@nubechecorre
The PPaint docs have a lot to say about the amount of "CHIP" ram and the size screens that PPaint can use. Your 1920x1080 resolution would exceed the 2 MB chip ram typically available on classic Amigas. I don't know if OS4 would use the "real" chip memory on a classic Amiga or the OS4 emulated chip memory. I seem to remember some AmigaOne users reporting problems with PPaint if "chip" memory wasn't added in the startup sequence with the command "C:SetPatch ADDCHIPRAM 2 QUIET" replacing the standard "C:SetPatch QUIET". I don't know if the ADDCHIPRAM option can add more than 2 MB of chipram to the OS4 68k emutator. Maybe someone else can comment.

I installed PPaint a few years ago. I don't remember the exact message, but PPaint complained about some sort of "memory save mode" problem. Reserving CHIPRAM made it happy.

My change to S:Startup-Sequence ...

;Add some CHIPRAM for PPaint
C:SetPatch ADDCHIPRAM 2 QUIET

I use 1024x768.

Hi,

If I'm not wrong, there is an option in the last menu of PPAINT for "RTG" graphics.
Try to activate this option. Restart PPaint and see it then work with 1920*1080 resolution.

Kindest Regards,

Oh, yes, that's true. Both the RTG switch in PPaint and the ADDCHIPMEM are set here.
