I'm pretty sure that it will be possible to get a TV card working under OS4/Mediator. There is no DMA to main memory, but nothing stops DMA between cards, AFAIK.

At the moment for me that is not a problem as long as i can use the old mediator drivers from elbox

Rogue, to install the old mediator driver i/we have to use a particular installation or i/we can simple use the multimedia cd installer from elbox ?

DMAing across cards may work on some systems (such as a reflashed Prometheus) but it's not ideal as if you want to do anything fancy you need access to main memory as well. On the other hand, maybe you could DMA to graphics memory and then read that manually.. so I suppose it may be possible after all.

My Prometheus at the moment doesn't have the newer firmware so that won't work though... maybe someone else can try it?

Of course it won't work at the moment anyway because there's a bug in the StartDMA() function which means that you can't do a StartDMA on memory on the graphics card, so you can't DMA directly to the memory card either at the moment. Rogue said he'd fix this for the next version I think but I can imagine DMAing from one PCI card to another isn't high on his priority list...

That doesn't prevent using DMA from/to gfx card ram. Simply don't use Start/EndDMA() on gfx card memory, currently it's not required since gfx card memory is mapped with virtual = physical address and cache inhibited.

So what would be the downside of using the old Elbox drivers instead of the newer OS4?

Can anyone explain what this means. Is it misleading information or is Elbox holding back on certain documentation.

If that was actually true, you wouldn't need the gfx card buffer to use DMA cards, but on the Mediator 4000, you DO have to use gfx card buffers....

The OS4 P96 monitor drivers are loaded as kickstart modules
so the bootmenu and bootshell (when booting without S-S) are
displayed on the gfx board. I dont know if its possible to
load the Elbox drivers and pci.library as kickstart module.
When its not possible, bootmenu and bootshell would appear
on AGA/ECS.

Well to be honest, that's no big problem for myself.
That's the position in now under 3.9 anyway and it hasn't bothered me.

I have a telly next to my monitor anyway for use with my PS2.
Obviously be more convenient if I didn't have to use the telly at all for the Miggy.

But it's a very small price to pay if it means I can have the use of all the cards currently connect to my Mediator.

Cheers.

This is IMHO comparable to some IDE cards which are sold
as "RAID controller". Even when the developers claim its
a normal IDE controller with a software RAID driver for
a certain operating system, the marketing guys simply remove
the word "software" from the term "software RAID" because
it sells better...

In this case it seems to be something like a combination
of a hardware PCI busmaster controller plus "software main memory
DMA controller drivers" which require a certain operating
system (AmigaOS, assuming here that there dont exist drivers
for NetBSD or Linux etc).

If i use the elbox's driver for the mediator i have to set the video mode from picasso96 or i can edit it from the icon's tooltype ?
