No longer booting with RX560.

See User information
I have a Sam460.
Up until recently it booted fine with a RX560.
Shortly after installing 4.1FE update3, the machine stopped booting into Workbench.
It still worked with a HD5450.

I've now reverted back to an earlier backup, 4.1FE update2.
Still doesn't boot to Workbench.
The boot appears to fail right after loading Kickstart.
No splash screen, the monitor loses signal and the boot appears to stop dead.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Hi @TiredOfLife,
How exactly did you roll back to update 2?

Have you checked that the RadeonRX.chip file is still present in the Kickstart directory and that it is among the modules loaded in the Kicklayout file?

Had a back up on another drive.
Formatted Workbench and copied over the backup.
RadeonRX.chip is in SYS:Kickstart and added to the kicklayout.

Yes, you have to put again RadeonRX.chip in your Kicklayout file.
I had the same issue with my X5000 after Update 3.

I didn't have to, was still there for me.
Worked for a few days and then just stopped.

It's looking like a power issue.

I tried a HD7770, that was doing the same.
But the situation got worse as I could no longer boot from CD.
The HD7770 uses additional power plugged in unlike the HD5450 and RX560.

I've swapped which power socket tower I plug the Sam460 into and now can boot from CD with HD7770 and boot normally from the HD.

Now I'm going to swap the RX560 back in.
Fingers crossed.

Check your CMOS battery. My X1000 just recently stopped booting, the cause was a low CMOS battery. Issue gone after a swap.

Monitor has just gone blank while using the machine.
I'll try and get hold of a battery tomorrow.

Got hold of one, still not working.
The splash screen will come up, it then sounds like the fan on the card is kicking in and then monitor goes blank.
The machine then continues to boot, I can hear the tune at the end.

You probably have a problem with the screen mode you were using with the workbench.

1) Can you boot without the startup sequence?
2) Could you tell me what version of RadeonRX.chip you are using?
3) Do you remember which workbench screenmode you use?

No, it's got worse again.
Can't boot without startup or using the CD.
Sometime the OS loads, I hear the sound.
Sometimes it doesn't.
RadeonRx.chip 2.12
Not exactly sure what is was now, possibly 1440 x 1080.

Pretty sure I've found the cause.
The red wire on the heatsink and fan has become detached.
Can't tell where it's come out, the four holes in the plug have four wires in them.
Possibly it goes in the same hole as the other red wire.

I've ordered a new fan and some thermal paste.
See if that improves the situation.
