Wonder if someone could test what CPU usage they get from the Warp3DNova SDK examples? Personally I get 99% CPU use. I cannot recall if this was the same with a RadeonHD card.

With RadeonHD (R7 250X) running all 4 SDK Examples at them same time shows me around 8% CPU load... so must be a RX issue I guess...

Thanks, interesting.
Want to put HD card back in to test...

Hmm same with my R9270X.

EDIT2
Having monitor tooltype Interupt=No causes the high CPU use.

Very rarely. I will leave it at yes with the RX card and monitor for a while.

The RX590 works. But the fans run constantly at full speed and it sounds like a jet plane. It is a powercolor Red Devil RX590.
It is slower in gfxbench than the RX550. There is definitely something funky with the AOS support for it.

That "fans running at full speed" is a known "problem" of the RX cards as dsr as I can tell.
Everyone tells the same

Hmm, strange, so RX 580 doesn't, but RX 590 do work?
Maybe the RX driver is not really capable of those hardware? Would explain the slower benchmarks as well.

@Hans would probably need to add his opinion

Thank you

Yes. The RX driver was not designed for X1000, so who knows what issues may exist across the RX card range. Interestingly, my RX550 fans run silent.

I would love to hear from Hans on his thoughts re RX on X1000.

You mean on AmigaOS? Or in general.

Really? Nobody told me that. I was under the impression that RX 580/590 cards were working well. It is possible that AMD have updated the power management code for RX 580/590 cards, or updated their firmware. They do that from time to time...

I personally have an RX 570 which is also a Polaris 20 card, and it's working very well.

The drivers are designed for AmigaOS, not any specific motherboard. The X1000 has the disadvantage that the firmware can't initialize the card. That could cause trouble if a card's low-level initialization code does something that the ATOMBIOS code executed by the drivers does not.

Hans

P.S., Yes, setting INTERRUPT = NO will cause high CPU usage due to it busy-waiting for the vsync instead of using the interrupt.

Thanks for the reply Hans.
The RX590 fans only spin up to full speed once AmigaOS has started booting. During HW initialisation the fans are silent. This card has a bios switch for OC or silent mode it has no affect on fan speed in AOS.

On AmigaOS4.

I don't have links but at least four people with RX cards here and on another forum (os4welt) and with the cards used in x1000 and x5000 suffer from the full speed fans problem (me included, RX 560)

Any thoughts about having multiple installs across different physical disks all labelled with ide0.0: ? Each disk would be connected to a SATA power switch that allows only the desired boot drive to be powered up - selected before the machine is started.

If this is a possibility, then it would overcome some of the CFE boot menu loss limitation.

I have not this problem, it seems to me that my Radeon RX 560 Pulse 2 GB does not have the fun at full speed, it's very quiet.
I installed it in my X5000 a couple of days ago.

But I have other problems, maybe it should be better I open another thread for this

Need to test the loudness

My RX550 is silent too. It seems to be running as fast as I expect.
Have you checked your Power prefs and saved to high? Also add the line “SYS:prefs/Power quiet” no quotes to your user-startup.

Could you do me a favour and take a look at the fan connector on your card?

Does it use two, three or four cable strings (plug).
Mine only uses a two-string plug and iirc one needs at least three strings to be able to "control" the fan speed, so maybe my card doesn't even has a fan control feature?

But maybe I'm wrong...
