I'm the same - on the desk is an M1 Mac Mini. It does have a fan but when I first got it I had to put it right up to my ear to confirm that because you can't hear it. It can roar. It did once when it did the equivalent of Windows BSOD but that's the only time I've ever heard it.
I keep meaning to do so many things with the system. One of which was to get in touch with a specialist PC place and see if they were aware of anyone willing to make custom cooling solutions. I don't like to see the 5040 idling at 70C, that's ridiculous for doing nothing much. I thought it was just the summer months but it's still doing it now that we well into autumn.
I agree that I hate loud systems, mine was too loud for me too so I disconnected the 3 front fans Now the computer is about as loud as a standard PC.
Next to the X5000 is a MacStudio and it's always a pleasure when I use the hardware alone and without noise.
With the front fans switched off, I have an idle temperature of 60 degrees, which is completely normal for a CPU. Perhaps you have a problem with the cooling or you have used a very narrow tower that does not circulate the air optimally.

There is a lot of airflow in there (2x 200mm fans in the bottom) and I can feel the cold air coming out the top as it is a vertical cooling case aka "chimney effect". I just increased the fans to Medium. The noise is bearable and the temp is now 65C, but I agree with this much airflow it should be cooler.
I am tempted to remove the heatsink from the CPU and replace whatever thermal solution is there, paste or adhesive but knowing my luck I'll make it worse so I'm reluctant to do that.
Maybe something is keeping the CPU at high load? I don't have a CPU meter running so I don't know. That's the thing, it might be hot at idle, but it doesn't get much hotter under full load so if I had to guess, I'd say something here isn't right.
@Maijestro can you share a link to the GPU you bought? I want to pick one up but want to make sure it's the right one and the same that you've gotten all that performance out of. Thanks!

Before you buy this card you should compare your performance data with mine. Here I have created some data with Starbox from Os4Depot that might be useful for you and others.
Power Prefs is set to Dynamic on SYS:Prefs/Power.I know there have been countless benchmark tests, but this one was run directly on my hardware with the AsRock 580.

Yes, you're right, it really is a large tower and there should be enough space for the board and optimum cooling. I like the tower

That's all I have, there are also 2x 200mm fans installed in the tower plus a silent CPU fan.
I am currently toying with the idea of replacing the silent CPU fan with a Noctua Nr Premium fan, I had already done this with the A1222 and I had optimal cooling and it was much quieter.
At the moment this won't be necessary as all the fans are relatively quiet, but maybe it will change over time and then I'll do it again.

Since Monday I've got a new X5000/40 motherboard in the house, and I'm still gathering the rest of the bits and pieces to build my latest AmigaOne system. I have everything else needed on the way to me, except a graphics card. The plan is to purchase an RX 580 this week and start putting things together over the weekend.
Doing a lot of reading of threads such as this one, but surely I'll have some questions before it's over!
Back at AmiWest 2014 I raised my hand when Trevor asked who in the room would buy an X5000. It has taken me 10 years to get around to it! Haha.

Congratulations and welcome to the club
Briefly about the hardware...2 years ago I started using Qemu and AmigaOs4.1 on my MacStudio M1 Max and later decided to use real hardware.
At that time I thought there won't be anything faster in the Amiga area on real hardware, because I had a very good experience with Qemu/AmigaOs4.1. Well obviously I was wrong The X5000 is faster in all disciplines without exception.
I will give you one of many examples of this....
Under Qemu I have often used Quake TimeDemo as a benchmark comparison (software rendering) here I get 29FPS at a resolution of 1280x720x16Bit.
For comparison on the X5000 with the same resolution (software rendering) it is 59FPS, which seems to be almost twice as fast. Here you should not forget that no 3d acceleration is used yet.
I have been using the X5000 for 2 months now and can only say good things about it. Of course there are problems here too, but they seem to be software-related. For example, the device stops working sporadically when I move large files and only a hard reset helps. I haven't investigated this further yet and would like to set up my system again soon, as it contains many Enhancer components and I'm not sure whether this could be the cause of the problem.

It is never too late to buy hardware as long as it is available. I'm pretty sure you'll be thrilled.

Congrats! I love my X5000. It's my second - the first one I sold when I was in a financial pinch, but this one you'll have to pry from my cold dead hands :P You're going to love this computer. I'm happy for you.
Make sure you have the right drivers for that 580 so you get video. I just went ahead and did the whole upgrade of my old Enhancer 1.5 to the 2.2 and gave me what I needed.
If I'm moving large files by USB, I always plug into the rear ports, seem to be faster and more reliable than the case ports connected to the mb USB. I also prefer DOpus 5, seems more reliable.
It does not only affect USB transfers. It also happens when I want to copy from one partition to another. Often these are directories with many small files over 1-2 GB. Often the copying process simply stops without an error message and the CPU load then drops to zero. However, the system still seems to be active as I can still move the open windows. The only thing I am missing is access to my HD.
Maybe the SATA driver just crashes unnoticed or something inside AmigaOs4.1 which is needed for copying. At the moment I have no idea what is going wrong until I have re-installed my system.
It does not matter which file system is used SFS/NGFS. Maybe AmigaOs4.1 can handle my large 1 Terrabyte SSD hard disk.

A32DS Video Game Capture Recorder HD I know that my videos currently have bad sound 😔.
This card also has a LineIn and LineOut, as soon as I connect from the sound card LineIn to the capture card LineIn the sound is not recorded. If I connect the MIC input of the sound card to the MIC input of the capture card, the sound is recorded, but there is usually a lot of background noise.
I use the capture card as a stand-alone card without any additional software and it has a record button that allows me to quickly record videos. The next videos should offer better sound quality as I was able to partially solve the problem.

1 - to my knowledge, Amiga OS 4.1 only uses up to 2MB of memory. If you put other OS on your X5K like Linux, I believe it can access more of that memory but Amiga OS only 2GB.
2 - I have an 8GB Radeon RX580 in my X5K and it works fine so believe. What and how access to that Ram via Amiga OS is foreign to me but I can say my card works in mine.
