I have tried to install OS4 Classic with an FastATA controller, but I cant get it work.. My A1200 can access the cd-rom and loads the kernel but when he reboots and should start read the CD-again, he reboots immitiately and starts flickering in different colors.. then reboot .. then reboot.. then reboot.. this happens exactly when he tries to read from the CD (after the kernel is loaded).. Any suggestions?

I'm using FastATA no problem.

Are you installing to a blank hd or are you running the installation from a 3.9 partition?

Blank HD (no partions, 4 gb) .. Though I have tried several, both 2,5" and 3,5" ..

Last config (working when loading kernel)

CD-Rom on first 3,5" IDE port. CD-rom is set on Slave and on the last connector on the cable..

HD set on master and on the middle connector..

What model is the FastATA? Mk II or Mk III?

Seriously, if you do want to contact me write me a mail. You're more likely to get a reply then.

Well i have my cd drives on the secondary controller of a fast ata.
I copied the contents of the cd to a spare partition and renamed it to the same as the cd and used the bootable disk, which then booted it all from the HD for me if you know what i mean?

I would guess it's the mark III.

Looks the same as mine but don't know if there was any big difference in loooks.
I also have FastATA99 on my disk.

Can you state your complete system setup ?

Do you have MAPROM turned off in the Blizzard setup menu ?

The FastATA MKI and II should work but only port 0 of the ide connector is detected.

FastATA MKIII should work with both port 0 and 1.

My guess its not the fastata controller but something else.

You do use the floppy drive to boot the install system dont you ?

Hi!

My setup is as follows:

Amiga 1200 BPPC 060 603e@240mhz
Mediator LT4
Voodoo5500, and other supported PCI-cards

Maprom is turned off and yes I use the floppy to boot from (though I have tried to start the whole thing from a clean os3.1 installation, same results)..

When disconnecting the FastATA controller and using the standard internal port on the A1200 motherboard (via a standard 2,5 -> 3,5" converter)., it all works and starts to install OS4.. I have even disconnected the PCI-bridge and tried to install OS4 with only AGA on a desktop 1200, worked too without the FastATA..

Ill give it another go another day .. wonder what I am doing wrong.. I just have settle with and IdeFiX adapter I guess..

When you use the bootfloppy to boot i assume you do a COLDBOOT and do not load in any FASTATA3 driver before using the floppy ?

The constant reboot could be because AllowBasePageacces is not set.

But if you really boot from cold with the original OS4 boot floppy it should work none the less.

Got a serial cable and another computer handy ?

I dont think you have a FAST ATA MK-III to start, its an older version which means the 2nd channel will not automaticaly work with the Elbox fastata drivers.

I installed my A1200 today with a Fast ATA-MK III (it says so on the hw itself on the left side if its a MK-III).

the only reason i can think if that it resets is that you didnt enable ALLOWBASEPAGEACCES during the install. You need to have that ON for the FastATA cards to work.

I was under the impression, that was with the A4000 only.
I didn't need to do that to install OS4.

I haven't had much luck with the drivers though so may try it again.

Took this from the Elbox site. I guess any other number
is the MK3.

"How do I find out which FastATA controller version I have?

The first two digits of its serial number denote the controller model:
? 08 - FastATA 1200 MK-I
? 16 - FastATA 1200 Lite (16-bit version)
? 18 - FastATA 1200 MK-I with AllegroCDFS
? 19 - FastATA 1200 GOLD with AllegroCDFS
? 24 - FastATA 1200 MK-II with AllegroCDFS"

AllowBasePageacces was also needed if you installed the FASTATA software (elbox updated their drivers in the meantime).

Tbh i have no idea what your problem might be with the Fastata. i suggest you contact elbox support directly.

here it works with the MK-III model
