More than a decade ago, Timothy Deters acquired the rights to the FinalWriter word processor, and has since released versions for the AROS and A600GS crowds along the way. Mr. Deters has now released his pièce de résistance on June 29, 2026: FinalWriter 7.3 for AmigaOS 3.1+ 68k.
FinalWriter 7.3 represents the latest evolution of the Amiga platform's most capable and feature-rich word processor. This release focuses on modernizing the user experience while maintaining compatibility with the workflows that users have relied on for decades.
Highlights of FinalWriter 7.3 include:
- Improved PDF generation and export capabilities.
- Enhanced printing support and infrastructure updates.
- User interface improvements and refinements.
- Stability, compatibility, and performance enhancements.
- Numerous bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements.
I asked Terminills the question; here is his answer : 68K is the official platform for this release. That being said we tried to make sure it was compatible with MorphOS and AmigaOS 4.x
@sinisrus Thank you for that. This reply is not that helpful, because if someone wants to use it mainly on OS4, cannot buy it and then find that it doesn't work properly.

Are you aware of any demo version?
I'm waiting to get bug reports from a couple of users who have both AOS 3.x and 4.x before I confirm nor deny anything.
As for the demo version there will be one at some point.
Thank you for coming here and replying to our questions, and for the new version of Final Writer. I hope to see the app work under AmigaOS 4 and being used like the older version. Keep up the good work.
I was able to open a text file without any problems, and I wanted to print it as a test. My printer is an Epson WF-2860 and is also set to "ipp". It also works perfectly with AirPrint under AmigaOS 4.1. As soon as I enter the printer's IP address and start the search, a GrimReaper appears. You can ignore it, but then nothing happens. The computer doesn't freeze, and I could continue working, but FinalWriter is completely blocked. I also noticed that I can only select a single font. Therefore, I wanted to load additional fonts, but FinalWriter also blocks when selecting them. I will continue testing and report back here.
Thank you. That file got mine working as well. I haven't tried printing yet, but did notice I can't change the font and keep getting an error that the font isn't supported.
working great on my X1000 running OS4.1FE Update 3. Loaded up some of my old files and converted them to PDF with no issues and so sweet to print them easily via AirPrint...happy customer
I had freetype2.libary installed in LIBS: but not in SYS:Libs and the Fonts in FONTS: but not in SYS:Fonts.
FW did not start. Once I moved everything to SYS: FinalWriter starts here too. How comes? I thought additional directories added to the PATH (e.g. ASSIGN LIBS: Work:Extras/Libs ADD) will be searched too automatically.
And what's even weirder, now it works even if I move the freetype2.library to Extras:libs!
