Demos of the Week: Shaders on Mesa

I change topic a bit, so to not flood forum with same kind of topics, and so , in this one i want to put at least one demo/intro in a 7-10 days which i port over Mesa.

As a first demo release for Mesa i port "Felix's Workshop" intro created by the French demogroup Ctrl-Alt-Test:

The intro was released in April 2012 and presented at Revision 2012, where it placed second in the 64 kB competition.

The port retains the original desktop OpenGL renderer and all 53 original vertex and fragment shaders. The shaders are embedded byte-for-byte and have not been translated or replaced.

OS4 executable uses SDL2 (statically linked into binary) over Mesa, and target an OpenGL 3.3 All shaders,fonts,music and other data are embedded. No external data files are required.

By default demo runs in fullscreen, but you can provide --win argument, or simple dbl-click or alt+enter to swith between fullscreen and window.

In window mode you also can see FPS in title bar. Grab it from os4depot upload query and have fun!

on sam460ex + RX550 demo goes 10 - 5 fps depending how many objects on scene.

BTW loove the Gargaj Chaos_Theory demo you showed, when will it be available to pulbic?

So 2 new ones. First one already known probably, this is ChaosTheory by Conspiracy. grab it from os4depot.




Second one, are from the same ctrl+atl+del group which made Felix, called Departure. It's probably not _that_ good, but still have quite a feeling , and didn't mislead it with not so full of effects look, it actually have a lot of shaders of all different sorts in use there, together with casual ones used velocity-based motion blur, Gaussian bloom/glow, MRT rendering, parallax mapping, normal mapping, environment mapping, dynamic specular lighting, etc.

Grab it from os4depot as well. Video on x1000 / radeonrx 570 / mesa 1.1. As you can see (if you swith it to window mode) , it gives 500-700 fps.

Chaos Theory on X1000 and RX580 with MESA1.1 only running at 0.5fps max for first minute, compiling? After that it runs fine at >60fps and often >120fps.

Unfortunately, ChaosTheory crashes here after launching.
The screen stays black and the Reaper appears; I couldn't select Ignore error, but I was able to save a crash log.

Chaos Theroy works very nicley on my X1000 2Ghz with Radeon RX 560.

But it crashes badly on Sam460 1,14 Ghz and Radeon RX 560 (Grim Reaper at start). I tried after a cold reboot and same Grim Reaper.


No problem with Departure (and it works fast enough even on Sam460 :) ).

Thanks for these awesome demos that are showing us just how powerful Mesa is right now.

I'd already seen “ChaosTheory” by Conspiracy in one of your videos, and yeah, it's great that I can now watch this demo myself on my system. Thanks....

Crash looks like from newlib, are you sure you use latest up2date newlib and update3 fully installed ?

Have crashlog maybe ? Sam's setup with update3 and co, right ?

Ok found, its unaligned access, which just tolerated on x1000, while x5000 and sam kernels know to be restrict to unaligned accesses of all sort. I.e. bug in code of demo, just by luck/unluck x1000's kernel tolerate it. So those who have crashes, try plz this binary instead of original one, and if all will be ok, will replace archive on os4depot:

Not for me unfortunately, I get a gray screen whether in window mode or in fullscreen. Music plays ok.

Of course, even after several reboots to be sure.

It's working fine now with the fix, but when it runs in windowed mode, it stutters a lot; in full-screen mode, it runs great

Ah yes, you are right it's still not fully working.
It launches without error.
Next there is a a picture for a while.
That goes and the music comes on.
But no other visuals after that.
