I tried updating to the latest SMTube on OS4Depot, but made no difference.

Is SMTube no-longer working, or does the problem somehow lie with the version of MPlayer I'm using?

EDIT: I believe it is an SSL problem, please see my post below:

Sorry, I don't have access to Google's code used to serve YouTube website

If you meant "did you try to update SMTube program?", then the answer is in my previous post

My problem seems to be because YouTube is now enforcing HTTPS on many videos (but apparently not all for some reason?!?), and at least some version of MPlayer cannot stream HTTPS:
http://os4depot.net/index.php?functio ... ts&file=video/misc/yt.lha

YT.rexx has similar problem, BUT it is able to solve it when you use the SSL parameter, as that causes it to use wget to stream the video & pipe it to MPlayer (rather than MPlayer directly stream it).

(P.S. I discovered that both YT.rexx and SMTube can be added to Prefs/URL, so you can play YouTube links directly.)

Please give me a link to try.

All videos I tried are working without any problem (using Emotion) and I'm using a lot SmTube.

So just to be sure that it is "confirmed" that SmTube is broken, I'd like to test with Emotion.

If Emotion supports SSL, then you won't get the problem. Or if (for some reason) SSL is not enforced in your area, then you won't get the problem.

You might put some blame on LiveForIt-MPlayer for not supporting SSL, but since SMTube is acting as the 'glue' between YouTube & MPlayer, I'd suggest that SMTube is the one that ought to be fixed. Especially since YT.rexx, which performs a similar function to SMTube, has already been updated to deal with the same problem.

Sorry but no. SmTube is not the culprit.

And here, in France, YouTube is forced in SSL and I can read videos without any problem with SmTube (and Emotion).

SmTube is being used in many countries on Linux and AmigaOS 4.1 without any problem and you seem to be the only one to complain about this.

Either you have trouble with your SmTube installation oe there is something else.

So, sorry, but "Confirmed : SmTube is broken" is a wrong allegation.

Once again : just check you installation (why no try with Emotion Demo from OS4Depot ? You'll be fixed).

I'm not sure how you come to conclusion that SSL is not the problem; I'm pretty sure it is, but it only affects some versions of MPlayer (hence why YT.rexx has an optional special "SSL" mode).

FWIW, I already tried:

A *clean* installation of SMTube still behaves exactly the same way. OTOH, telling it to use some old/slow version of MPlayer is a work-around to the problem, but I'd like to stand some chance of watching 720p videos.

Emotion Demo does not appear to support streaming videos at all. I assume this is a limitation of the demo.

Usually, I use Emotion, but I just retested with LiveForIt-MPlayer 10 differents YT videos, no problem at all.

Even Emotion-demo worked fine (except for ChrisH), definitively not a SMTube problem...

EmotionDemo works without any trouble with YouTube streams.

It seems somethings is missing in your installatio but I don't know what (an SSL thing maybe ?).

I cannot be of any more help but SmTube is not the culprit here.

I could not find any documentation on HOW one is supposed to use the Emotion (Demo) with a network URL from Shell, so it may be I was not using it correctly. An example would be appreciated.

I am still not convinced that SSL is not the problem (see comment about YT.rexx below).

I don't know if YouTube enforces SSL for your region/etc. But I can confirm that LFI-MPlayer doesn't work with YT.rexx either, untill I enable it's special SSL (stripping) option.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. If you use YT.rexx's SSL option, then it uses curl to fetch the video and pipes it into mplayer.

If you notice 1.4 not showing all links, some links not working (unrelated to forced SSL) or it crashing intermittently, 1.5 will fix this. I altered some code to make it work within AREXX's 65K string limit.

I've been distracted by other things lately. I'd like to get the shared-from-mobile links working before releasing it. Anyone who hasn't already got the work in progress version can send me a message.

That sounds like SSL stripping to me, since it means MPlayer doesn't need to handle SSL itself . And even the *option* is called "SSL" so I thought I couldn't be more clear!

Well, in the sense that mplayer is being fed non-encrypted data via the use of stdin/stdout, then sure :)

> And even the *option* is called "SSL" so I thought I couldn't be more clear!

The "nossl" mode requests videos as if it were embedded media, which used to return standard HTTP links. The "ssl" mode requests videos through the HTTPS site, which always returns SSL links.

YT.rexx (1.4) doesn't recognize forced SSL links, and so it won't use that experimental stdin/stdout stuff unless it knows it's SSL, hence the requirement to either set that as a config setting or on the command line. I'll make it automatically recognize SSL links for 1.5.

Did you update the Youtube code (from the menu Help of SmTube)? No trouble to play them here.
