That was few years ago, but better late than never imho :) Found a few hours (damn, if i know it will be that easy..) and make initial port of latest version of vpdf from Morphos (Kiero is author). That one of 2015, so kind of decent should be. At this time it even works seems so :)
Press "open image in another tab", to see images in full size.
Through, port _of course_ will have bugs, and some parts will simple not work (because once i see that test pdf pages works, i want to share it), but feel free to report ports bugs here.

Then it is not stack (if you do it as i show), but something else.. What you see latest in output console before crash ? The same "inside of try" ? With and without setting of stack its the same ? Do you set 10000 or how much ? Exactly like i show it ? Should be 1.000.000
Just be 100% sure that you ruled out stack problem (reboot, etc). I tested right now on fe_update1, and without stack it crashes like you say, with stack, it works. But it can be something else of course.
@kas1e Tested VPDF by adding an icon and starting from Workbench. With the default OS4 stack it crashes. With the stack set to 100000 I was able to load an 88 page PDF in one tab and and a 16 page PDF with lots of images (file size 3,913,407 bytes) in another tab. Ranger shows 67,484 stack used by main process and about 43,340 stack used by rendering process. I would guess that a stack of 200,000 should be good for all cases.
Speed seems similar to AmiPDF on my X1000 but image loading seems a little faster. The outline area is cool but can take a second or 2 to load the outline images when you scroll up or down.
Overall, very usable program. I would prefer the selectable gadgets be at the top of the window like most programs.
Problems: I can mark text but it won't copy (to the clipboard). Closing one tab causes the entire program to quit. The console output is annoying. Maybe you could add an environmental variable to enable/disable console output.
EDIT: I was also able to read the PDF bank statements that I can't read with OS4.1FE AmiPDF.
