USB Speed-Link Competition Pro Joystick

Bought a USB Speed-Link Competition Pro Joystick to use with SAM and 4.1.

Have tried VICE and a native OS4 game.

In both cases, the game is acting as though I am continually pushing the stick to the top left hand corner position.

The stick appears to by undamaged externally and I can't hear anything rattling inside.

Pushing the stick into the above position makes an audible click just like any other of the positions.

I have tried Calibrating in Amiga Input but nothing changed.

Is this likely to be a duff stick, or a problem with USB and and AOS4.1 for Sam?

Most games and emulators don't support AmigaInput.

Try this program:

(NutsAboutAmiga)

Basilisk II for AmigaOS4
AmigaInputAnywhere
Excalibur
and other tools and apps.

Yeah VICE works apart from the problem I have.
If I don't configure VICE to except the movement to the left, it works fine.

All other directions are ok.

I'm now presuming this stick is faulty.

It sounds weird, yes. Have you tried another USB port? Tried E-UAE for example as well?

It seems like not every joystick are good. I've bought three and the first joystick is ok while the other two has the left respectively the right mouse button not giving a click sound and you must press it pretty hard for it to work.

Yeah, tried different ports.
Will give EUAE a go.

Since my Comp Pro USB works on OS4.1, you can easily test if your joystick is broken or not (see below). Your problem also sounds like you may not have calibrated it:

1. Plug in joystick, and wait for USB recognition message.
2. Start Sys:Prefs/AmigaInput .
3. Click on "USB" in "Available interfaces". Ensure the Comp Pro is the highlighted device/driver.
4. Click "Test/Calibrate unit" button.
5. In the new window that opens, click the "Calibrate" button.
6. Now wiggle the joystick in different directions - the cross-hair in the box should move in the same direction. Do not press fire yet.
7. Now follow the text instructions at the top of the window to calibrate the joystick.
8. You can also press different fire buttons, to see if they are registered too.
9. Now save your calibration settings

EDIT: It may also help if you plug the joystick into USB *after* OS4 has booted, so that you see the connection pop-up.

Have already tried what you suggested above.
Strangely enough, the stick works fine when using the calibration program.

OK, but it's a software problem then. AmigaInput and Lowlevel emulation is a bit buggy, although a lot better than I hear it was in OS4.0.

Looks like you could be right.

The stick seems to work fine with AmigaInputAnywhere when tested with PRBoom

The stick can be also used as a mouse and works fine.
