MP3 Encoding
Quite a regular

See User information
The one thing that seems to be missing under OS4 is an easy way to rip, encode and have the resulting mp3 file renamed automatically.

Have had a quick look at freedb.rexx and to be honest, it looks a bit of a nightmare.

Is there nothing else around?

Try this Link, also this is very universal tool.
MP3 encoding is very easy on OS4, even I can do it.

TheMPEGEncGUI is a great utility for full control over MP3 creation, but I agree that there should be an easier tool available i.e. insert CD, click encode, new drawer with tagged files created.

That's essentially what ADRipper does as long as the cd is registered on freeDB.

edit:- damn spelling!!

Have used the MpegEncGui for years under 3.9.
Has been very handy.
Just seemed a bit much having to rip the cd using Make Cd encoding and editing the tag using MpegEncGUI.
I know there is software that recognises tracks on music cd's under OS4 (Freedb) so was looking for something that would tie all three together.

Will give the first link a try.

Cheers

ADRipper looks like it might be a very good program, but I really can't tell. It immediately locks up my A1 upon startup.

MPegEncGUI will rip and tag the cd tracks for you, as long as you have freedb installed.
1. Select the CD source.
2. Select use list (tick the box)
3. Add tracks to list (Highlight all)
4. Go to menu & select get freedb for this cd.
5. Select a destination directory, create one if necessary.
6. Select Encode.

I use this on an Amigaone using OS4, but I don't think it is any different under OS3.9

Do you mean this?

Once you set it up, it works flawlessly...

from the ADRipper readme:-

- AmigaOS 4.0 or higher
- AISS by Martin Merz

As far as I remember, if you don't have AISS installed that does happen.

I didn't know that.
Freedb is only available under 4.0 (I think) so this would only work that.

I recently acquired AOS4.0 so it's not a problem.

Cheers again.

@ Jack

Yes that's the one.
Setting up was the problem, looked a bit messy.

Although admittedly, it was late at night when I was looking into using it.

FreeDB is a 68k proggy. I certainly use it as cdplayer on my A1200/OS3.9

Wrong again eh?
I'm doing well.
Good job you are all here to put me back on the right track (No pun intended).

Will have a look at ADripper and TheMpegEnc under 4 and 3.9 and see what I can achieve.

Cheers.

Ouch! That definitively shouldn't happen, be AISS installed or not. Feel free to send me a log of the crash at the address mentioned in the archive (after a complete lock up, you can still generate a report typing "dumpdebugbuffer ram>log.txt clear" in a shell after a "soft" reset).

Those instructions for TheMpegGUI sorted me out under 4.0.
Nice one, cheers.
Haven't tested 3.9 yet.

Can't believe I had the necessary software installed to do what I want and didn't know it.
How long has it been possible to use Freedb within the TheMpegGUI?
How long has it been possible for TheMpegGUI to rip CDs?

Will try ADripper out of curiosity when I have worked out why I can't install AISS.

I had a problem installing AISS, because of an error in the install script, and a partial install from a previous attempt. Look at the AISS lha file in unarc, to figure where it puts evrything on your system, and manually delete any leftovers from a previous install attempt.
Severin corrected the install script, there is either a thread, or a discussion in a news thread, I can't remember which. Do a search, it should turn it up.

Bye for now.

I've no idea if it works under os4, but secondspin ripped, encoded and checked freedb too afair, so, if it works, I think it's the tool to use.
