Hi,

I wonder... there was some command to tell the hard drives to "park" after some defined time, but I forgot how it is done. Can anyone help me with this ??

Thanks in advance

IIRC there exist tools on Aminet. You can also use IDETool
to spin down drive (immediately, not after inactivity).
However its IMHO not recommended to force a drive to
spin down, it will decrease its lifetime. Just use a
typical 2.5" IDE drive which was eplicitly designed and
manufactured for notebooks, most of them do spin down
automatically after a given period of inactivity.

thanks... hmmm if I understand you, it is safe to let the A1 on all the time without to spin down the HD ? Doesn't THIS shorten its lifetime ?

Why park your drives? with modern drives it's better to leave them running, it's the heating/cooling and the spin up/down that stress the drive...

But if you want to kill your drives as quickly as possible... use the Commander2 screen blanker module and something like idetool -p devname unit 3 eg.

idetool -p a1ide.device 1 3 >nil:

Ps. I hate the new amigans website. <shudder>
