New modern Webrowser Quasar
Just can't stay away
Just can't stay away

See User information
Quasar is a native WebKit browser for AmigaOS 4.1. We are actively developing it.

Status: the engine and a lot of the chrome already work here (WebKit 2.50.4 Extra, PPC G3, Cairo, own Intuition window). JavaScript with a native PPC JIT is in, tabs, bookmarks, downloads, HTTPS and cache are in. It is not a public test build. It is not good enough for that yet. When it is, we will post it. Until then this is only a status of what is already in the Extra.

What is already in:

Engine

WebKit 2.50.4 Extra, clib4, 8 MB stack
PPC G3, no AltiVec (X5000, X1000, A1222+, Pegasos II)
Cairo drawing
Fonts via fontconfig, PROGDIR:Fonts/WkSans.ttf, plus SYS:Fonts
libcurl, IPv4, HTTP/1.1, HTTPS (CA bundle in PROGDIR)
Disk cache under PROGDIR:Cache
Cookies and storage in SQLite
Safari 18 class user-agent (AppleWebKit/605.1.15, Version/18.0)
Can be started with an http://, https:// or file:// URL
Start will be wk.jit, engine is wk.engine
JavaScript / JIT

JavaScriptCore from WebKit 2.50.4
Script on for http:// and https://
Script off on the start page (quasar:home), file:, about:, and other local Quasar URLs
Native PowerPC LLInt (not the C loop)
Baseline JIT: hot functions compiled to PPC machine code
DFG, FTL and WebAssembly are off on purpose
Layout / CSS

Full WebKit style and layout
CSS, form controls, CSS animations and transitions
::before / ::after / first-line
JPEG / PNG, favicons on tabs
Window

Native Intuition (no MUI)
Close, depth, size, drag, iconify to AppIcon
Window size and position saved
Live resize
GadTools menus: Project, Bookmarks, Settings
Home page: quasar:home
Toolbar

Back / Forward (per-tab history)
Reload, or Stop while loading
Home
Address field and search field (search goes to Google)
HTTPS lock and load progress in the address field
Typed hosts are HTTPS-first; if HTTPS fails we retry HTTP. Explicit http:// stays HTTP
Tabs (max 6)

Tab strip with title and favicon
Click to switch, X to close, + for a new tab
Ctrl / Amiga + T new tab, Ctrl / Amiga + W close tab
Closing the last tab goes Home instead of quitting
Each tab has its own page, URL, title, load bar and history
window.open / target=_blank opens a new tab when a slot is free
Bookmarks (max 12)

Star in the address field on HTTP/HTTPS pages
Click the star to add or remove the current page
Saved in PROGDIR:bookmarks.txt
Bookmarks menu lists them; pick one to open
Downloads (up to 6 at once)

ASL requester for folder and filename
Bottom strip: name, percent, speed, cancel
Cancel one download, or Esc to cancel all
Archive and binary links start a download (.lha, .lzx, .zip, .7z, .iso, .adf, .exe, … and OS4Depot getfile/download)
Follows redirects, including HTTPS
Scroll

Vertical and horizontal scrollbars
Mouse wheel
Page clicks and form input go to WebKit
Settings

Clear cache (menu, or quasar:cache on the start page)
Optional clear cache on quit
Project menu: Iconify, Quit
No test archive, no download, no “please try this”. We are still working on it.

If you have questions, ask them and I will answer them.

@all

It will work on all machines, including QEMU. On systems with Mesa support, it will stand out thanks to WebGL and the ability to render pages just like modern browsers do on other systems. Thanks to the native JIT, it will be at least as fast as Odyssey on non-Mesa systems.

But there's still a long way to go before then; what I have right now is that all Amiga pages are loading and displaying completely. Aminet/Os4depots downloads are already working very well. This weekend, I'll show a few videos of the whole thing.
