My micro-A1 has been feeling poorly.
Today I replaced the thermal pad between the processor and the heatsink, and the machine seems much more stable now.

OK, this is no great surprise, but perhaps this might be a useful reminder for others with Se / Xe / Micro machines.

And another question on the same topic: My X1000 is still as solid as a rock, but at what point should I consider repacking the CPU heatsink on it?

It's nice to be in a community where our machines can outlive a CR2032.
But that's another topic entirely.

Can be good idea to replace hard drives at some point, if things start getting unstable.

I have PATA to SATA adapter in my old XE, works well, I now use SSD, feels like a newer machine, access times has probably dropped like a stone, pretty much guaranteed max read speed of the via shipset, sense I have the IRQ/DMA fix. I use 2K block sizes, sense it reduces fragmentation.

I restored my dead, X1000, back to life by replacing ram,
(battery was not the issue.)
and the instability by also replacing ssd disks there, a complete new install of the OS.

I also downgraded SFS to an older version, that did not give me all the read errors.
sense it was almost impossible to backup files, while having to click in the request boxes.

I believe having different versions of SFS on XE and X1000, caused disk corruption as well, when trying to back up the data.

I replaced my original heatsink and noisy fan on my X1000 back in 2015 mainly due to the noisy fan and its been rock solid hardware wise since then. Blog post

I normally change the CMOS battery every 4-5 years (basically when you have boot up issues its safe to always replace the battery first).
My issue has been with all the 'replacement' OS4.1 software from Enhancement packages that have made my X1000 less reliable but thats another story eh Hardware wise my X1000 is the most stable Amiga I've ever owned with the exception of my original Amiga 1000 which is still all original and working great

I normaly wait with replacing the thermal paste until the machine starts to run hotter or if i notices that the fan have to work harder.

It's quite alot of boring work for very little gain and i'm lazy.

On my X5000 that shares the same heat sink as on the X1000 it took 5-6 years before it was noticable that the heat pad did a lousy job.

The varisys fitted heat sink is not so very suitable for a desktop machine either so it was ofcourse also replaced with a bigger one at the same time
