Akiko or CD32 emulation on OS4?
Just popping in

Hi,

Since Os4 has AGA and HAM screen emulation, has anyone tried to use Akiko or the CD32 tools available here: http://www.airsoftsoftwair.com/

It would be great if these would work!

OS4 has no AGA emulation. It uses AGA when you have AGA chips
and it doesnt use it when you dont have them...

OS4 does not use an Akiko when you have it, I've decided
that the number of CD32 machines with a PPC accelerator
and without gfx board is about zero so it doesnt make sense
to still include the CD32 support in the classic part of
graphics.library.

AGA/HAM screens are software structures, those can be
emulated. For emulation of AGA or CD32 hardware you need
a hardware emulator. OS4 is mainly a PPC OS plus some 68k
CPU/FPU emulators, its goal is not to emulate AGA/CIA/Akiko
custom chips.

BTW, why do you think OS4 could run an Akiko emulator which
was written for Windows?

Hi, You would have to emulate / play CD32 titles under OS4 using E-UAE from www.rcdrummond.net

Configure as discussed in this thread.

http://amigans.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=408

Edit

Here is an example config

kickstart_key_file=Amiga:Emulators/UAE/rom/rom.key
kickstart_rom_file=Amiga:Emulators/UAE/rom/amiga-os-310-cd32.rom
kickstart_ext_rom_file=Amiga:Emulators/UAE/rom/amiga-ext-310-cd32.rom

joyport0=mouse
joyport1=joy0

floppy0type=none
floppy1type=none

scsi=true

cpu_type=68020
chipset=aga
cpu_speed=max
cpu_compatible=no
cpu_24bit_addressing=no

show_leds=true

chipmem_size=4
fastmem_size=0
gfx_framerate=2

amiga.screen_type=custom
gfx_width_windowed=400
gfx_height_windowed=300
gfx_lores=true
gfx_linemode=none
gfx_center_horizontal=true
gfx_center_vertical=true

..oops...yes...I didn't notice until after I posted this that Akiko is specifically for Windows, whereas the CD-32 emulator is for Amiga.
E-UAE is a good alternative, no doubt about it....and I have gotten a few CDTV games working...but CD32 stuf hasn't worked for me so far...at least anything like Psygnosis Microcosm...

Anyone know how to get that working with E-UEA?

Thanks,

Scott

I guess you could always try building an A1200 type config and then installing 3.1 under e-uae. If you have scsi=true in your config you can then install idefix, using uaescsi.device, from aminet.
The cd32 emulator in that package may help then.

Worth a shot i guess ?

can you use iso instead of real CDs ?
if yes, how ?

so far I tried a burned CDROM with latest e-uae and although it seems to boot, later it just reboot...

I have the original microcosm CD but did not try it yet.

tried microcosm original CDROM and it is working but the sound is cut and the animation is also not optimal, even with a gfxrate at 2.

BTW anyone having the following pb : I am using a usb joypad and when I quit and restart e-uae, it does not find the joypad anymore so the only way to have it back is to reboot the A1.

I guess if you can mount an iso under OS4 you might be able to use the a line like this in your CD32 E-UAE config.

filesystem2=ro,CD0:CD0:XX0:,0 instead of scsi=true

Where XX0 is the OS4 device name of your mounted ISO.

I tried mountiso from aminet but it does not work under OS4 however, it can be used to mount an iso this way though which may or may not help you.

Firstly I just created an ISO of pinball illusions on the PC. Its 515MB so to get it over to Amiga I stuck it on a USB Memory Stick.

Now to make that USB Memory stick visable to AmigaOS under E-UAE add the following line(s) to your E-UAE config.

filesystem2=rw,USB0:USB0:USB0:,0
filesystem2=rw,USB1:USB1:USB1:,0

Here my USB memory stick is USB1:

Then we need to mount the ISO using mountiso mentioned above for reference grab it from here:-

http://aminet.net/docs/help/MountISO.lha

Unpack this to a filesystem thats visible under E-UAE.

In your AmigaOS E-UAE enviroment copy

filedisk.device to devs
SimCD0 + icon to devs:dosdrivers

You might need to edit the SimCD0 mountlist as it defaults to l:cacheCDFS for it file system. Thats ok here as my 3.X partition is taken from AF2006 DVD set which uses CacheCDFS.

Now edit the Unit tool type via the SIMCD0 ICON

EG: for me The Unit is USB1:Pinball.iso

Now mount SIMCD0

And you now have a CD32 iso mounted under E-UAE from a USB memory stick

The only problem i have with a with E-UAE and USB joystick is that if its not plugged into my hub before i start E-UAE then it wont be recognised if i add it after starting E-UAE. So i just keep it plugged in to the hub all the time.

thx but thats very complicated

instead I succeeded to play "PREY" from a mounted iso using diskimage (on os4 final).
just one glitch during loading : the system asks me to insert the volume "prey:" so I had to manually assign prey: cd0: even if I have the following filesystem2=ro,CD0:CD0:ICD0:,0 in my cd32.conf ! (ICD0: being the virtual CD drive mounted by diskimage).

regarding the joypad pb : the system does recognize my usb joypad even if I plug it in and out several times. It is only E-UAE which recognizes it the first time I launched the emulator and then never again if I exit and restart the emulator.
