AmiUpdate delivered me an updated PlayCD today, and whatever mojo was done to it did the trick on my X1000. Previously this player skipped when playing CDs on my system, but now it's playing an Andy Broad CD perfectly. (Nice tunes, Mr. Broadblues!) Thank you to the PlayCD fixer. It's working very well here.

@mbrantley Yes, in my SAM440 now sounds fine. Not the old creek,crackcruck sounds. And with CDDB it's great.

It works pretty fine, but maybe a graphical GUI is needed because the current plain interface look very bad (imho)
Somethings like the old PlayCD included in 3.9 would be nice:

@samo79
Except that particular one was ugly as a monkey's butt
I'd much rather see a slick ReAction-based interface than a hideous skin like this.

@trixie Hehe yep at the end it's a '90 style skin so yes today is a bit ugly but imho always better than the current one, but i agree about a ReAction based interface, if also skinnable ...

@samo79 <offtopic> Same for DvPlayer, by the way. I hope the version sold via AmiStore will come with some professionally-looking skins. </offtopic>

@samo79 A new GUI would be nice, but the current one is very old and most of the program would have to be rewritten for a new GUI. That's not my long suit. BTW, we don't have access to the code for the 3.9 version, so we can't use that "look".
cheers tony

In 2005 I wrote a new ReAction-based GUI for PlayCD; the work was commissioned by Detlef Wuerkner. In our last communication he wrote that he has "ported the sourcecode to PPC" (I wrote the code under OS3.9) but he "did not start yet to integrate it with the sources of the existing PlayCD". Apparently the project fell through, or Detlef left soon after, or whatever. The source is lost now anyway.

@trixie
This one, you like it ?
http://www.amiga-look.org/artwork/osxlike By the way how about asking salass00 directly, he already re-implemented a new native PlayCD from scratch and it work very well, eventually we can use it instead of the current one, but eventually we can also reuse some part of his code for the current player
http://os4depot.net/index.php?functio ... dio/play/playcdda_gui.lha Then later one might also add a proper skin support around them
