DefIcons and midi files problem..
Just can't stay away
Just can't stay away

I am trying to configure my system in order to play midi files with Timidy..

Timidy works fine here when i want to play some files. I just open it and play all the midi files that i want to, but when I configure DefIcons something is wrong..

After configuring the deficon with Timidy, I try to play a midi file but the system simply opens Timidy without passing the file to the program..

I was able to configure AmigaAmp3 to play mp3 and mod files with DefIcons but I am stuck with Timidy..

Any ideas?

OS4TiMidity?

timidity -o ahiplay

I think you need to do a script since I couldn't find anything in timidity.guide about defaulting to AHI (nor Tooltypes).

edit: that script should also cd into the timidity directory because the program reads timidity.cfg only from current directory.

Simpleplay 1.0 would work easier.

How it's done in Aweb and from shell. Your directory is no doubt different.

cd Music:TiMIDIty
status com=Timidity >NIL:
Timidity -EFdelay=b -EFchorus=2,6 -EFreverb=1,6 -o ahiplay -iv <MidiFile> >NIL:

Hope it helps.

@Thematic

I tried also with SimplePlay, same behaviour as Timidy..

@Mechanic

ok but what i don't understand is if I have to add a similar script to my user-startup to play midi files and also configure Deficons..

That I don't know. I've not done it before and I'll try messing around with it later.

One thing you should do is make sure to pop up a CLI so you can use CTRL + c to break out of a playing tune.

These programs only accept files from the commandline, directly. So I tried to do a script+icon but that wouldn't work, it only wants to open a Tool for the job. I guess that leaves just the "Shell" method, but even then the path seems to be omitted.

IOW if someone knows how to code a frontend for SDL_Mixer that does parse this Workbench stuff, that would work. A datatype is probably not a good idea, since it'd need to convert the whole piece at once.
