Because it's round (mostly) and has a hole in the middle (always)...
People may find that ... strange, besides "Doughnut" means
"Do not" in eastern swaheli which resembles the fact that in ancient
times Doughnut's were worshipped as god like beings until the
worshippers started to eat them to be even closer to them and the
term "Doughnut" comes from the last words the Dougnut's were spitting
out before eaten.
Only one case were the sentence was actually expressed in whole has
survived from ancient times, the whole sentence was "Do not eat me!"

So i'm absolutely with Outcast here, give Doughnut's a right to live...
